Phoenix Theatre Company Inc
"Uh uh! Not guilty!" Introducing Laura de Iongh as Hunyak in “Chicago”, playing at the Doncaster Playhouse until the 15th of September! Make sure you register on the waiting list for your chance to see the show. It’d be criminal to miss it!
Laura is a 25 year-old actress who has trained and performed in Sydney, Melbourne and London. She is a Melbourne University graduate, with a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology and Archaeology. Laura plays ‘Katalin Hunyak’ in Phoenix’s production of Chicago, the Hungarian wrongly convicted of killing her husband. ‘Hunyak’s’ origins are more complex than they appear, and reflect the deeply rooted bigotry of America a century ago. Likely a victim of the 1924 Immigration Act to “preserve racial homogeneity’; her very name is a North American racial slur. Laura hopes you might reflect on how ‘Hunyak’s’ story is pertinent to contemporary migrants while you enjoy the flashy dancing and costumes of the Jazz Age. Her sincere thanks to Harry Tibbals and family for their pronunciation assistance. Her recent credits include Singin in the Rain (Babirra), Heathers (‘Heather Duke’, UMMTA), The Drowsy Chaperone (Choreographer, SEDOS), 9 to 5 (Centrestage London), Thoroughly Modern Millie, Aida, Rent (UMMTA).
