Mix up your routines and exercises to test and strengthen the entire core and really chisel up that 6-pack. . As discussed before, Rotational Power is an often neglected portion of training, especially for athletes who need a more complete program. . This concept of rotational power can often be referred to as training in the Transverse Plane. . The idea in this variation is to drive through the ground with your back leg. That force is transferred through the hips and core to create a “whip” effect and finishes through the chest as you punch🥊 . The better the timing, the more stability and power created through that movement. . About a month ago one of my newer clients @hails_in_the_gym took on her first powerlifting competition at the @bcpowerliftingassociation @vancityshowdown - She showed some real tenacity and it was awesome seeing her excitement and approach to hitting the platform for the first time! Highlights: ➡️ Squat: Hailey crushed 105kg and set a good standard to move forward with! ➡️ Bench: 60kg flew for her on the day - Hailey also put up a hell of a fight on her third attempt and grinded out 65kg but unfortunately got called on a technicality (butt lift). ➡️ Deadlift: 127.5kg for a strong pull. She also moved 137.5kg super well on her 3rd attempt but got called for a technicality...we know that 300+ pull is coming soon in comp though...fuel for the fire 🔥 • Proud of this athlete and how she followed through with something she said she wanted to do...and she set some really solid bench marks for herself along the way! Let me tell you a story. • A year ago, a friend told me that he had been diagnosed with severe arthritis in his neck. It felt crunchy - it was so bad that the side of his face often went numb. He’d tried physical therapy a few years prior, but was assuming that his arthritis had gotten worse. • Flash forward to last week - I ran into him at church. As we were catching up, he mentioned to me that his neck had never been better. • I take every chance I get to pick people’s brain. • He told me he went to PT and they spent the vast majority of the time on exercise. • This is my favorite. They spent time strengthening his scapular muscles and working motor control of his cervical stabilizers. It wasn’t an overnight success. It took time and effort. • But he can feel his face again! • We can’t fix arthritis, but we can train your body to provide as much support to these joints as possible. Besides, no pain is what we care about anyways, right?!

We make sure the hitter is getting a feel for squaring the ball up with the plyos, and have them get their body involved with the end-loaded overload bat. We then have them carry over those sensations and emphasize speed when we transition into baseballs paired with the underload or normal bat. Intent is always a priority, but there is an even greater emphasis on it on pure output days. If you’re the smartest or hardest working person in your class, find a more challenging class. • In other words, train and work in an environment where people have more expertise, knowledge, and talent than you. It will force you to grow and force you to pick up your own slack. • There’s a lot value in switching up your learning/training environment from time to time, as this can give you a new set of eyes to things you don’t normally see or have become blind to. • For example, I will deliberately and periodically train at different specialized gyms in the Bay Area. That’s because it can serve as a stimulus for psychological arousal and it can alter your acute feelings of fatigue so that you can have small spikes in athletic/or intellectual performance. Come train with the best and you will understand what I mean. • On the other hand, this can also serve to be a distraction. So select your environment wisely. • Break the habit. Switch up your routine and see what happens. 🚨COOL DOWN FOR RUNNERS🚨 - Check out @runfitdoc for all your running education from a skilled PT! - You finish a run🏃🏻‍♂️, grab some food🍕, shower🚿, then head to work where you stay relatively sedentary most of the day. Then, stiffness sets in. Your body will thank you just by adding 5-10 minutes to your routine to allow your body to cool❄️down and start recovering. - 👉🏻The following cool down sequence (SWIPE LEFT) can help start the recovery process: . 1️⃣ Cat/Cow: Hands under shoulder and knees under hips as you go back and forth from arching to rounding your spine. Inhale on the arch with your head up and exhale as your round and head goes down. . 2️⃣ Prayer Stretch: Feet together and knees apart, reach forward and take a few deep breaths. Feel free to reach side to side for a side body stretch. . 3️⃣ Thread the Needle: Rotate with your hand up in the air to open up, then thread the arm through your static arm. Take a few breaths then switch sides. . 4️⃣ Adductor Rocks: Put your leg out to the side, arms out in front and rock back. 10-15 on either side. . 5️⃣ Diaphragmatic Breathing (Legs On Wall): Take the time for your heart rate to slow down with some slow deep breaths (3-4). Having your legs on the wall can help with circulation. . 6️⃣ Rehydrate: Replenish your body and muscles! Chains (or bands) are a great way to utilize accommodating resistance. This is a fancy word meaning that you can train different portions of your range with different weights. Squats are a great example of utilizing accommodating resistance. We’re stronger towards the top of the movement, so having the chains on, the weight will increase in difficulty as you move from the bottom of the squat back towards the top. This creates more strength gains in the upper range while avoiding overloading the bottom portion of the squat which can lead to injury.
