❌ One of the most difficult positions to comfortably regain after ACL reconstruction is terminal knee extension ❌ ————— Being able to thrive in full knee extension is a good indication of solid quad strength and restoration of knee extension range of motion ————— Here are 2️⃣ of my favorite ways to test and train your comfort level with this position ⛹🏽‍♀️ 1️⃣ Elevated Bridge with hip flexion: this one challenges both the quads and glutes on the weight bearing side, with the goal being to keep the trunk completely straight as the opposite knee marches 🏋🏽‍♀️ 2️⃣ Shoulders and Feet Elevated Hip Thrust: this drill works on the transition from knee flexion to extension and adds an eccentric control component to the movement. Now when both are combined, it can make a huge difference because as the percussion is breaking down the layers, the active motion being performed at the same time will help expand as the tissue is being broken down. ACL Rehab ——— There’s many components to ACL rehab and I strive to challenge my athletes in every way possible so they are 100% ready to return to their sport. Second ACL injury rates are far too high and in my opinion, can be significantly reduced through a good sound rehab program (with commitment from the athlete too of course). This includes progressive strengthening of the quads, hamstrings, glutes and calves, as well as proprioceptive training as well. As frequently as possible, I incorporate their sport to address their confidence frequently. ——— Here are a series of exercises that focus on the hamstrings and balance. 1️⃣ Eccentric Hamstring Curls - Hamstring strengthening is a must in rehab and in my opinion under emphasized in rehab. Research has supported closer to a 1:1 quad to hamstring ratio as opposed to 2:1 in the past. 2️⃣ Dynamic single leg balance - another area I believe is under emphasized, specifically higher level balance exercises. I think the standard single leg balance gets way too easy but continues to be used even in middle and later stages of rehab. ——— 🙌🏼 Tag someone who could use these exercise! 🤷🏼‍♂️ Questions or comments? 👇

🔺BACK PAIN IN SPORTS🔺by @dr.giardina.dpt - Back pain is prevalent in sports, and when we sign up to play, there are risk factors involved. We need to focus our attention on reduced injury potential or injury mitigation. If we better understand which sports have a high prevalence of low back pain (LBP), we can begin to implement strategies that can safeguard us against injury. - 4 sports with high risk of LBP prevalence: 1. Gymnastics 2. Football Lineman 3. Swimmers (breaststroke and butterfly) 4. Golf - #1-3 have high repetitions of lumbar extension, and #4 has high repetitions of lumbar rotation. He honestly has the best images. Checkout this cool image of a hip hemi-arthroplasty. In a hemi-arthroplasty, only half of the joint is replaced. In this image, we see that only the femoral side of the joint was replaced. The socket side of the joint (acetabulum) appears to be intact. - Total joint replacements like this hip replacement are most commonly associated with advanced stages of osteoarthritis and usually reserved for cases where pain is very severe and limiting function. - While joint replacements are quite invasive, they do help people very much in terms of reducing pain and enhancing function. Having said this, I would predict that it won’t be too long before regenerative medicine is able to restore joint tissue allowing us to leave joint replacements in the past. Exciting times in science...we’ll see what happens.

A sneak 👀 into one of the new DYNAMX TRAINER training drills coming soon. . This continuous 45 Degree Bound is a great plyometric drill for increasing explosive change in direction and vertical jumping. With added resistance, you are going to further advance reactive strength of hips, thighs, and calves, leading to greater knee drive and more powerful triple leg extension. . . Perform. 1. Load through your hips and arms and bound to one side, landing on a single leg. 2. Absorb the landing, minimize ground contact time and explode through hips, thighs, and calves. 3. When bounding make sure you are pushing off with your back leg and minimizing any pulling with your front leg. 4. Emphasize powerful opposite arms drives and look to gain ground and height with each bound. . Perform 5 bounds per leg for one rep. Do 4-6 reps in total. .
