Benu - San Francisco (Part 1)
Benu is a 3 Michelin star restaurant that opened in 2010 by acclaimed chef, Corey Lee. Taking what he learned from chef Keller as the chef de cuisine of French Laundry for four years, the restaurant opened to immediate positive reviews as it immediately earned 2 Michelin stars in 2012 followed by its third in 2014. Found in a historic building that dates back to 1922 in the heart of SFโs SOMA district, Benu combines an Asian-American blend of ingredients with chef Leeโs Korean born influence found in many of his creative and classic dishes. This is a required restaurant to experience at least once for any serious foodie.
Ok, so the first picture may not be for everyone, but like all fine dining of this sort the idea is to experience food that you may normally never try or discovering new flavors you may not have thought paired well together. Regardless, it was a beautiful dish to me and the quail was cooked with finesse while full of flavor and tender meat.
* SMOKED QUAIL - nasturtium, lam kok olive
* BEEF - braised in pear, black trumpet, mustard, charred scallion (I felt this dish could have used some color)
* โSHARK FINโ - crab, jinhua ham, egg white (known for his recreation of the Asian shark fin soup, but obviously without truly including the actual shark fin which I appreciated)
* More pics of this meal to come
