Today, I wear this for ribbon for you Officer Antwan Toney - in honor of your courage, service, and ultimate sacrifice. I did not know you, but what I do know from stories and memories shared by your loved ones and fellow brothers and sisters in blue you’ve worked with, is that you had passion for life and serving your community. Your dream was to be a police officer. You accomplished that dream and in doing so went on to dedicate your life to protecting and serving those you didn’t even know. You were proud of protecting and serving and from what I hear, you were damn good at it.
My heart hurts for your family and loved ones, they got that call everyone dreads to get in this blue family. I cannot even explain how I feel every morning watching my husband put on his vest, him giving me a kiss, say he loves me, me telling him to stay safe, and him walking out the door - the fear of what if that was the last time and he doesn’t come back home. Your family is living that fear, that absolute nightmare, and I cannot even imagine the pain, anger, and sorrow.
To Antwan’s family, we know there is nothing we can do to get rid of that grief and pain, but what we can do and will do, this thin-blue line family, is surround you with love and support. You aren’t alone and never will be. This blue family will be with you - all around you. Antwan may no longer be here, but his lasting impact remains. His beautiful smile remains. His love and passion to protect and serve remains. His memory remains. His courage remains. We will never forget him.
We are #1808. 💙🖤💙
