Ending the series of Belgrade pictures with a Valentine's Day message 😎. Behind the sign - Palace of Serbia (also known as Federal Executive Council 1 - SIV-1, as it was used by the Federal Executive Council of Yugoslavia, renamed later to Palace of the Federation, and finally renamed to Palace of Serbia). It is the largest and the most spectacular representation of modernist architecture in Belgrade and one of the first buildings raised in Novi Beograd district.
The building was designed as result of an architectural design competition in 1946 - the selected project was designed by Vladimir Potočnjak and his team. After his death, it was taken over
by Mihailo Janković and his team.
The construction started in 1947 and finished in 1959. Palace of Serbia's H-shaped base covers around 65,000 m², consisting of 744 offices (around 30 m² each, 13 conference rooms, six salons, three large halls and two garages). Over the years the building had many functions (including being the seat of the government of Federal Republic of Yugoslavia or Serbia and Montenegro). I did not have enough time to explore the beauty of this building during this visit - leaving it for the next trip to Belgrade.
