🍚This is a popular ‘swap’ people love doing when you try to ‘avoid rice’. So we eat bread instead… thinking it’s better for our diet… one month later, we point fingers on the trainer or the gym because the ‘diet’ didn’t work. . . 🍞I also need to stress this point - I’m in no way saying that bread is bad… an. In fact… there’s no real ‘bad food’ or good foods. Everything has it’s place as long as we eat the right amounts. It’s just that it’s sometimes not very obvious - hence the reason for these posts… I hope that you learn something and pass the info on to other serial bread eaters who are depriving themselves from delicious, warm, fluffy rice 😍 . 🙌🏼I hope you find this post useful and no longer need to eliminate rice from your diet. ⭕️LATERAL RAISES: WHY CABLES MIGHT BE "BETTER" FOR HYPERTROPHY⭕️ by @pheasyque - While TUT (Time Under Tension) alone is overrated for hypertrophy, here are a few reasons why performing the exercise with cables might be a better idea. - Performing lateral raises with a cable pulley maintains continuous tension over the muscle both in the eccentric and concentric phase of the movement. On the other hand, when we perform lateral raises with dumbbells, the tension over the medial deltoids is almost nil at the starting point or at the ending point of the eccentric phase. Also: when using dumbbells, many people tend to swing their arms through momentum, not providing any tension to their muscles whatsoever. And this can be prevented with the cables too, atleast in most cases. - Another great variation when training your side delts with cables might be tilting to the side/"leaning away" , which seems to take load off of the supraspinatus muscle and isolate your deltoids more, study shows: https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/m/pubmed/7552678/ - Anyway: should you ditch your DB side raises completely? No that's not the goal of the post. Monday’s upper body workout! _ One of my favorite ways to train is shown in the first video. Alternating the press stresses the trunk. Holding one arm in the top position increases time under tension (TUT) without taking the joint through as many movements. This is a great for building strength/stability/proprioception in that end range of motion. This is more difficult than keeping the static limb down at the bottom so prepare accordingly. This concept was applied to flat Db press, hammer strength row, pulldowns, and shoulder press. _ I also did pullovers, shrugs with a 20 second pause at the top, and my favorite burnout for deltoids. 1x4 | 143 lbs | set 5/5 . . I got my knee taped yesterday morning during PT (week two, day three), and let me tell you.. it felt great on squats! 🙏🏽 However, I like to give my body a break to rest between my main lifts (conventional, sumo, squat), so squatting the day after DLs was real rough.. like really, really rough (like check out my face lol I wasn’t too pumped at the end 😂😩). On a better note, it’s a new day today and easing today’s lift with shoulders/core/and more PT exercises for my forever injured self haha. Happy Friday Jr, have a blessed day 💛🎉

My motivation just comes from my insecurities. I would love to say there is some incredible driver of me. Cure the worlds problems or conquer world hunger but mostly it just comes from a fear of no one caring about my journey, not seeing me when I walk in a room or not listening I speak. Fear of inadequacy. Is my fear valid? I’m not sure 🤔 but not being respected is my biggest fear. Maybe it’s from just not always respecting myself. Last night at the gym we were given a brutal task. After heavy deadlifts, including a max rep set at 85% of our 1 rep max, we were told to do one set of squats. Easy right? Not so fast. We had to use 70% of our current 1RM. For me (and John in the white behind me) that’s 225. Squats using 155lbs. That’s doable, right? It gets worse. It was one set of 20 reps. Anytime you racked the bar to rest, you had to do 10 sit ups before returning to finish your set. Obviously the point is to not rack your bar, or at least do so as few times as possible. John and I were joking about how to approach this. He kept saying, “just 5 sets of 4 or 4 sets of 5.” Another member and friend of ours, Ryan, chimed in, “Or 10 sets of 2!” I joked that I’d just do 200 sit ups. John goes first. He fires off 13 reps without stopping. He pauses then does a few more then pauses and finishes up. My turn. I hit 10 reps easily. Pause. Hit 3 more. This bar is starting to feel real heavy. Another 2 reps. Just 5 more to go. I hit 1. Pause. Hit 1 more. Pause. Grind out the last one. Done. Neither John nor I ever racked the bar. Mission accomplished, but not without some takeaways: 1) 𝕃𝕖𝕒𝕣𝕟 𝕋𝕠 𝔸𝕕𝕒𝕡𝕥 Once we started, John and I strayed FAR from the strategies we talked about. You may have a plan in mind, but that might not be how things unfold. That’s okay. Adapt and keep moving forward. 2) ℍ𝕒𝕧𝕖 𝔸 ℙ𝕠𝕤𝕚𝕥𝕚𝕧𝕖 𝕄𝕚𝕟𝕕𝕤𝕖𝕥 Tell yourself you can do this. The one thing John and I both did was audibly say, “I got this. I can do this.” When things get tough it’s easy to question yourself. Instead of saying “can I actually finish this?” I flipped the switch and thought, “just one more rep” until I hit 20. 3) ℍ𝕒𝕧𝕖 𝔸 𝕊𝕦𝕡𝕡𝕠𝕣𝕥𝕚𝕧𝕖 ℂ𝕒𝕤𝕥 If it weren’t for John cheering me on, maybe I would have given up. Surround yourself with those who support you and your goals. Weird strategies to take away from squats, right? That’s one of the things I love most about fitness, though. When you miss a workout. — When you have been too the gym every day and felling strong and healthy af for weeks & months.🔥 •The thing is when you can’t go to the gym, there is nothing to worry about! Live in the moment with whatever else you got to do. Just get back to working out the next week or the next day. This is just like eating one salad won’t make you skinny or get you those abs you always wanted🥗 Just like eating one doughnut won’t make you fat.🍩 You’re not going to lose muscle, nor it won’t hinder your fat loss. 🔽HOW TO SET MACROS?🔽 ⠀⠀ Hey, so yesterday I made a post in which I said that I’ll calculate macros for everyone. However, there are over 600 comments right now, and it would take me 30-50 hours to calculate macros for everyone. I don’t want to be unfair and calculate it just for some people, so here’s the exact formula I’m using. Just input your numbers and you’re ready to go! ⠀⠀ 1⃣ Set maintenance calories – Multiply your bodyweight in pounds with 14 or use TDEE calculator to do it for you (tdeecalculator.net). The number you will get is estimation and it may not be 100% accurate so make sure to follow if you are gaining/losing weight and adjust if necessary. 🍴 ⠀⠀ 2⃣ Set your deficit/surplus calories – If you want to gain muscle, you have to be in caloric surplus. Simple add 200-500 calories to your maintenance calories. If you want to lose weight, you have to be in caloric deficit; take 300-500 calories from your maintenance calories. 🐢 ⠀⠀ 3⃣ Set macros (protein, carbs, and fat) – Now that you have your calories, decide on the percentage of each macronutrient. I would recommend somewhere around 30-35% protein, 40-45% carbs, and 20-25% fats. However, fat/carb ratio is mostly up to you and your preferences, and protein intake depends on your goals, but this is just a rough estimation. 👌 ⠀⠀ Not that we’ve decided on percentage, multiply your goal calories with each percentage. Let’s say you want to lose weight, and your deficit calories are 2000. Multiply 2000 with 0.35 (35%) and divide it with 4 (2000x0.35 =700, 700/4 = 175g of protein). Repeat the process with carbs. For fats, divide the number with 9 (2000x0.25=500, 500/9 = 55g of fats). 👀 ⠀⠀ That’s it. Now that you’ve figured your macros, you only have to make sure to follow them. Good luck! 😊 ⠀⠀ Got questions? My brain in addled! 😫 I’ve double booked myself this afternoon, I’ve given my house key to the car service company, my husband is away and our kitchen fitter will be gone by the time I get back. I didn’t have time to eat the soup I bought for lunch so ended up with a sandwich deal. Only 100kcal more than I planned and much later than I wanted to eat so it’ll keep me going. As women especially, this thing we set on our bathroom floor with the pretty cover on, can be such a frenemy in our lives. When it goes up it tells us we’re going to have a bad day ahead, filled with eating less, working out more, becoming upset with ourselves as a whole and questioning all the work we’ve been doing. When it goes down it tells us that a good day is ahead, but still filled with small portions, lengthy workouts, more will to continue on and questioning what we should do next. We accept this as fact when it is far from acceptable. You’re at war with yourself physically, mentally, emotionally and sometimes even spiritually. You measure your worth in a number you’ve set aside for yourself. And you aren’t enough until it’s met over and over again. You tell yourself you aren’t enough to have a life, to have love, to have an image or to have a body worth dressing up until that number is met. You’ll hold off going out until you’ve earned it. You’ll hold off finding love until you’ve measure up. You’ll hold off embracing your true identity. You’ll hold off buying that dress that’ll look great on you now. All because a number on the scale...said so? What if I were to tell you that you can kiss that scale goodbye and still make progress? What if I told you that you didn’t need to be precise in order to be healthy? What if I told you that the more fun you had, the faster your results would come? What if I told you that the way you’ve been limiting and restricting is hurting you rather than helping you? Would you believe me? Is there a part of you that WANTS to believe me? If either of those responses are “yes”, then you’re ready for a new Journey, and you’re ready for a new Life where you’re in control and have a say if you’re worthy or not. Because you are SO worthy right here, right now to live the life you’ve been working towards. And it’s as simple as that.

This morning was a challenge for me. . - I was upset with literally every set I did on every exercise. . - No matter what, I couldn’t push the weight I normally push nor get the constant amount of reps I do. . - Mentally I felt like I was failing myself this morning. . - It felt like my daily challenges in life was catching up to me mentally and carried thru my physical performance. . - After I was done, I went to this mirror in the locker room and took this picture. . - It reminded me that this workout was just one of those up and down moments, but no matter what I’m on the right path towards my personal goals. . - We all are covered with invisible scars. . - These scars are what’s shaping and strengthening, molding us for what’s to come in our future. . - I believe without these scars one hasn’t really lived. . - Life isn’t always peachy. . - But ultimately the end result is what we learn, what we do and what we make of it. . - No matter what keep working hard in everything you do in life. . - As long as you do and believe in yourself, you’re on the right path. . - Fight on! 👊🏼 . - #scars #fighton #life #hardwork
