The Mercantile Library
Yet another special evening at the Mercantile Library. L-R Soprano Nicolette Book (wait till you hear her sing!) and well known Music Critic Janelle Gelfand. 2) Ms. Gelfand was the featured speaker last Tuesday in conversation with the Artistic Director of the Cincinnati Opera, Evans Mirageas, about her many years as critic for the Cincinnati Enquirer and her recent transition to covering the arts for the Cincinnati Business Courier. Ms. Gelfand also mentioned a book she’d like to write, which sounded so fascinating I hope she plans to do that soon! 3) Video - And oh, if that wasn’t enough Nicolette Book sang Dvorak’s “Song to the Moon.” Ms. Gelfand is an accomplished musician and accompanied Ms.Book on the piano. 4) My good friend Betsy standing beneath a relative. 5) Just kidding! But Bucky Niehoff, past president of the Mercantile, is a relative of Betsy’s.
Being a writer and a music lover I was especially interested in what Ms. Gelfand had to say, but I was also emotionally affected by Ms. Book’s rich soprano with notes that soared above us.
I’ve raved about this private library before, founded in 1835, so much so, that to say it’s a Cincinnati treasure sounds cliche, but it’s true. www.mercantilelibrary.com
BTW While I love to share with others places, restaurants etc. I enjoy, I never solicit nor accept meals etc. or anything of the kind. A ‘thank you’ though is appreciated, when given.
