A new, reasonably well researched, terribly exciting and informative blog post on the House of Pomegranates site, about my delving into corpse walking in China. Link in bio. Excellent rainy day Canada day reading.
Fascinating day visiting Londa and Tampangallo burial caves. Torajans bury their families in caves to prevent animals and grave robbers stealing the valuables they are buried with. The effigies (known as Tau Tau) are said to house their spirits and deter grave robbers with their life like features. Torajans have an incredibly complicated funeral ceremony and death process including tea with the deceased and buffalo sacrifice. I found it especially moving that they look after the bones of their relatives in such a caring and respectful manner even placing them in new graves when necessary to keep the family together. The bones in the photos have fallen from the coffins that have rotted away.
