Charlotte Bassin ⢠Artist
Gyotaku (Japanese éæ, from gyo "fish" + taku "stone impression") is the traditional Japanese method of printing fish, a practice which dates back to the mid-1800s. This map is a work in progress that Iâve been working on for the past couple weeks. The fish prints were made with ink that I painted onto both sides of a whole (real but dead) fish. A fellow artist was kind enough to teach me this amazing technique. Definitely outside my comfort zone but so fun! I think Iâll add Japanese water patterns in blue around the fish!
