Retreat is a viable option. A closet, a secret place, the only bathroom on our first level, wherever it is, whatever it takes. A mother needs a space to retreat for even some moments. A place to pray. A play to harness peace. A place where original art is always helps. Like this set by @ebw_artwork #hausonthefritz
I took this about a month ago after my daughter took the specialized monte cristo grilled cheese sandwich I had made to her specifications and squeezed and ripped it in her tiny palms until it was a mauled mess and then threw it back on the plate while screaming her dissatisfaction. It hadn't been the first tantrum of the day and it wasn't the last.
I try to be articulate and honest about my feelings with my children. My daughter will ask, "Mom are you happy?" I try to identify the feeling she is sensing instead of masking it. "I am frustrated because...." or "I was disapointed when you..."
My 11 year old told me yesterday that he wishes that instead of going to school he could have "the easy job of being a mom who stays home." 😅 I think that should be the caption to this selfie, don't you? 😁
