Contemplations of a Gardener at the Time of Dying - 1. Plant and microbial networks improve immunity when allowed to decay on the top layer of soil. By sanitizing our gardens by removing decaying matter like leaves and stems, we interfere with a basic bio-organic process just to satisfy our internal desire to be presentable. Stop over identifying with a barren earth. Love the rot. 2. Come to know your plants. There are times a gardener can be like a healer. If you paid attention to your plants over the season, you will know some may have exhibited an airborn disease or a pest. By removing the effected leaves from the landscape you can possibly and gently support the plants defenses against the disease usually within a few seasons. Love the role a gardener is meant to be. 3. Plants that often exhibit such diseases well aided by fall leaf removal (or late winter removal if missed) are hostas, roses, eonymous, and hawthorn. It is a good idea to do this from under diseased or infested trees also though other measures are likely needed also. Love that Gardening is a year round mindful practice. 4. Growth feeds from one form of energy and converts it into another. Our shedding husks and skins, leaves, and cells contain such energy that is than fed upon by others. Convert, Conserve, and Commune. Love the Creative Act of the Gardener. 5. Invent new ways to encourage keeping the organic material of your garden for regeneration of soil. Clip Iris leaves and chop them up to mulch about the flower bed. Take seedless flower heads and break them into mulch. Design mounds of seed head filled flowers upright in patterns for snow to sculpt with. Create a mulch pile or compost pile in a corner so you can spread the clipping wealth back onto the soil in spring to give plants a nutritional boost. Mow your lawn with the fallen leaves upon it and leave them for winter to be threshed out in spring and added to garden beds or around the base of trees. Love invention. ________________________________________________ #gardentip #gardenideas #gardenmeditation #gardenlife #sacredgarden #sacredwork #gardenlove #greenthumb #ecoconscious #professionalgardener

✔Garlic planted! 🤗 Don't worry, I separated the cloves before planting. 😁 I usually plant in early November, after our first frost, but a back injury set me back a bit. 😐 I have grown all of the garlic we use for the past few years but this is the FIRST year that I planted entirely from what I harvested myself. 🙆‍♀️ 😁 If you're looking to plant garlic for the first time, send me a ➡️direct message⬅️ and I'll send you a link to my free garlic planting cheat sheet. Saint Plant The Wise

Plant Lesson 3 – Seasons in Life. Do you know that life goes through seasons, just like plants? Take this Jonquil for example. In Autumn & Winter, it’s onion shaped bulb lies dormant underground. As soon as the soil begins to warm up and the days get longer, it’s season arrives and it bursts back into life. It makes it’s presence known by sending up a rich, green shoot which abruptly and energetically bursts out of the soil, telling the world of it’s presence. With it’s new vigour, it sends out more shoots which eventually take the form of long, slender leaves. These leaves continue to grow until the plant sends out a beautiful and intoxicatingly perfumed inflorescence. The plant is now in it’s prime. As it’s season progresses, the flowers die off. Eventually, when the months get colder and the days get shorter, all the leaves too begin to die, leaving only baron and bare soil. So how can a Jonquil teach us about seasons in life? Well, in it’s prime, the leaves constantly draw energy from the sun, sending this energy down back into the bulb. Why? Because it’s preparing itself for dormancy, knowing it’s just around the corner. It’s storing all the energy it needs in order to survive and push through. Eventually these leaves die off. No trace of life is left above the soil. Beneath the surface, the energised bulb patiently awaits it’s next cycle of growth. When the next season comes, it uses this stored energy to burst back to life, beginning another cycle of growth. Do you feel like you are in a dormant season of life? Remember to keep pressing on. As slow or disagreeable as life may seem, you are most certainly preparing yourself for your next season of growth – in fact, you area already ready for it. Remember always that just like the humble Jonquil, your season will come too! #stplantthewise

•💦Today I want to recommend a little trick to better irrigate your plants. • When you water your plant, close the drainage holes of pots with normal corks (if, obviously, the holes allow it). • The concept is: block holes in the best way. • Do not immediately remove corks, leave them there for a few minutes. • In this way, the water will not be drained immediately and will reach all the spaces of pots. The soil will be soaked uniformly. • In this way you will allow the plant to develop its root system throughout the pot. • • • #PolliceVerde #gardentips #minirose #gardentip #roseflower #planttips #roseflowers #flowertip #rosesonly #flowertips #rosesfordays #flowerfotography #roseseason #roseslover #rosestagram #roses🌹🌹🌹 #rosess #rosesoftheday #rosesgarden #roseseverywhere #rosesroses #igersflowers #roseslovers #flowerfoto #autumncolour #passionforflowers #flowerpassion #autumngarden #instaflowerslovers #bluellygram

Seed planting trays - free I often start seedlings in paper cups to get a jump start on the growing season. During this time, you can get free plant trays from most big-box stores in your area. They often discard these trays in trash bins, but will be more than happy to give them to you free. Planting the seeds and growing them in paper cups is economical as well as gentler on small plants during transplanting. Unlike transplants grown in seedling cells, those in paper cups can be planted still in the container. I try to start my plants indoors 4 weeks before the first frost. Plants have a life of their own, and we are all part of that cycle. #gardening #greenthumb #plants #greenlife gardens #garden #gardener #organic #growyourown #green #homegrown #flowers #gardeningtips #plantinggarden #growyourownveggies #harvestingveggies #growingveggies #growingveggiesathome #homegarden #homegardens #growyourownfood #gardentip

Gardening Tip: You'll help to prevent issues with slugs on your hostas next year if you cut back their foliage once it goes dormant this fall. Slugs may lay their eggs in those leaves, so they'll have to find someplace else if you take this preventative measure. Pictured here is Shadowland 'Hudson Bay' hosta paired with evergreen Primo 'Pretty Pistachio' coral bells. Do not cut coral bells back now--evergreen perennials should never be pruned in fall. Two types of shallots and two garlics went in. Garlic is 'Music' & 'Spanish Roja'. Shallots are just organic and from the food co-op a few years ago. ~75 total 🤗 🍃 Tip: shallots should be planted more shallowly (1"-2") than garlic (3-4"). Shallots are more susceptible to rot so light mulch in wet winter areas and remove mulch in spring if it tends to be wet in your climate. Garlic gets deep mulch (3-4"). I use straw or leaves for mulch. 🍃 #garlicplantingseason #garlic #hardneckgarlic #shallots #shallot #fallplanting #soil #organicgardening #garden #homegrown #growyourownfood #fortcollinsfoodcoop #thegarlicshop #alliums #organicfood #vegetablegarden #compost #seedtoharvesttoseed #gardentip #gardentips #foodgarden #gardenlife #gardenskills #nocogardener #noco #highaltitudegardener

I collected seeds last week from my own herbal garden and was struck by the soft beauty of this Golden Oregano stem. This creatures new growth is a vibrant yellow, slowly turning to a yellow-green as it matures. The cold tinged Autumn colours of red and oranges with the umber seed stalks complete the annual transformation pictured here. Seperate the seeds from the husks (I use a ceramic bowl for this) and transfer seeds to a paper envelope for safer storage. Remember to seal and label the envelope with important details especially the species and type, when and where it was gathered and what traits the plant expressed. An example can be herbaceous, ornamental, for seed, for veg etc. Happy collecting! #gardenstories #gardenideas #gardentip #seedcollecting #seedcollector #seeds #oregano #goldenoregano #seedhead #greenthumb #seedstorage #professionalgardener #autumngarden #autumncolours #herbalism #herbs #cultivation #botanical #botanicalphotography #backyardbeauty #gardenlife #sarawitalis_botanical

Garden tip ahead: it took me a long time to accept that certain plants don't grow where I live, like this cute desert-dweller I saw for sale at the grocery store. But that's ok because a lot of amazing flora only thrive in this dark, chilly, wet climate like giant conifers and gorgeous ferns 🌲Whatever you plant, make sure it's going to thrive and not shrivel up in a few weeks. Research where they grow naturally. The best bet is native plants. They'll likely look great while benefitting wildlife. Another thing to consider is how they'll look in a few months. Stores display good-looking plants at their peaks, but for example, annuals will die off within a year and some plants, like ivy, kudzu, or mint, will start to take over everything else. #gardenhack #beforeyouplant #plantconsiderations #gardentip #gardeningtips #portulaca #nativeplants #plantlove
