Food is my Love Language. I love everything about it. Growing it, cooking it, preserving it, sharing it with friends and family, and especially using it to heal the body, mind, and soul.
While running errands yesterday, I was offered some free food from a local organization (Free Food For All Seattle) that picks up fresh food that would otherwise would be thrown out, and gives it back to the community. I grabbed a handful of fresh veggies and other perishable items and decided I needed to give back too. Not only did I sign myself and my daughters up to start helping next month, but I also put together a basket for a random family in need here in my neighborhood.
Usually, I volunteer in the schools and help out with the food drives, but this year, sadly, not so much. Then while checking my local Buy Nothing Group on Facebook last night, I saw a few kind souls giving away Thanksgiving turkeys and dinners. That was it! I promptly ran out to Costco to gather a few items to add to my garden goodies and stuff like the bread, biscuits, sweet potatoes, eggs, and celery that had been given to me yesterday to pass along to a family in my neighborhood through the Buy Nothing Project.
Since I have more than enough to feed an army at any given time, I'm pleased that our family can help out another family here in our neighborhood. Yesterday's simple gift to me was a great reminder that I too have way more than I need and need to continuously pass along the wealth.
I am truly thankful that I am able to share food with others. I hope you're all blessed with family friends, and food this Thanksgiving, too. Xo
