Left over nachos, the way I like it: with a big side of greens 🌿✨ when it comes to fresh greens on my plate, I’m not eating it because it’s “good” for me (although that’s a bonus), or even because i feel like i have to to deserve the nachos...i eat them because i really enjoy having crunchy fresh lettuce, spinach, silverbeet or rocket as a side 🌼 eating the ‘right’ amount of vegetables can be daunting but you don’t have to eat the ones you don’t like! Instead, fill your plate with the ones you do like and enjoy them 🙌🏼 This plate only got half eaten because I was quite full half way through (thanks to that stomach bug Im still working out portions that don’t fill me up too much 😭) but I’m listening to my fullness, I’ll stop eating now and if I’m hungry again I’m an hour so be it, I’ll eat the rest then ☺️ Now I’m off to Bali tomorrow morning!! 🌴🌞🌺 So get ready for some drool worthy holiday pics ⚡️

I heard this a long time ago and it's sage advice that's always stuck with me. ~~~~~ It's especially true when it comes to body sizes, shapes, and abilities. The people in your life who "mind" about what your body looks like or is capable of don't matter. ~~~~~ And the people who don't "mind" - those that just appreciate the fact that you're a part of their life, those folks matter - surround yourself with that tribe! #alpinenutrition #selfcare #healthateverysize #HAES #dietfreedietitian #antidietdietitian #bodyrespect #feminism #intuitiveeating #youdoyou #effyourbeautystandards

Obligatory body dissatisfaction? I actually think that 97.3% of us deal with it every day. I’m not SUPPOSED to accept who I am, my body and all it’s pieces and parts. I’m ALWAYS supposed to be striving to improve SOMETHING about myself, right? Wrong. • That thought smacked me right upside the face this afternoon. Is been awhile since a word, just A WORD, has pummeled me. But it did. For a few hours. One word! Hours later, what’s left is an awareness, a sensitivity within myself that I can’t ignore, and can’t keep to myself. It’s a triumph that was disguised as trouble until I sat with it and listened to it for awhile. Until I showed it the compassion it deserves. • I saw a friend today whom I haven’t seen much of in the past few months. We had a chance to talk and laugh, and she made a comment to me about my “voluptuous beauty.” Of course this was a compliment, but the word, “voluptuous,” rattled around my racing mind for hours. • Truth. It’s true. Voluptuous is a perfectly delightful way to describe me. But I had to discredit it and find something “wrong” with it. That’s because I’m not really supposed to believe that voluptuous and beauty can coexist. And even if they do, I am SUPPOSED to want to be somehow “less voluptuous.” That’s what I’ve been taught by the media, culture, medical professionals, etc. Women AREN’T supposed to wholeheartedly accept a positive compliment, it’s just not what we are supposed to do! •BUT • The longer I sat with that tonight, the more I realized how much we devalue our bodies in this culture. What on earth would happen if I was content to just live in this body, just as it is, no questions or improvements needed? I don’t know if I’ve ever met that kind of radical self-love...but I’ve longed for it. I’ve tried to find it by being less of this, but I won’t find it that way. I’ll find it right here—voluptuous or whatever this is. I’ll find it in the truth, and when I can settle into the truth that it IS beauty. Maybe we’re all just a little uncomfortable with our own radiance? • #latenightthoughts #bopo #bodylove #curvyconfidence #edrecovery #bodypositive #haes #selfcompassion #bodyimagemovement #healthateverysize

During my eating disorder, I used food as a coping mechanism, and to gain control in my life. Even though I am recovered, it was only during my recent intuitive eating journey that I realised I still hadn’t combated using food to cope with my emotions. This has been one of the most challenging parts. When you sit with your body and feel those feelings, it can really hurt and be uncomfortable, but once it passes and you get through it, you realise it is going to be ok. If you feel like you use food emotionally- start by finding some other ways to comfort and distract yourself. Food won’t fix those feelings. You may feel temporary better- but it won’t solve it. I just want to add this it is ok to use food as a distraction and comfort if you need to- being aware of it is the first step- it is only if it becomes your only source of comfort that it gets more complex. Here are 3 tips to help get you started. 💖 Ask yourself- am I physically hungry? If no, then get curious by asking yourself- what am I feeling right now? What is it that I need? It may be a rest, a hug, a phone conversation with a friend or just a break from work/ home life. Spend a couple of minutes working out what it is that you need. 💖 I find that when I super stressed- or when my self-care is lacking- I start eating when I am not hungry. This is always a warning sign to me that I need to step up the self-care and rest. I take time out by having a bath, watching something girly or funny on Netflix, or going shopping. 💖 Sit with your feelings- yep- I know- this is super tough, and it takes time. But even just being aware and acknowledging them is the first step. And its ok if you aren’t ready for this- it takes time. Have a think of some other things that you enjoy that can distract you. Is it going for a walk? Reading? Cleaning? Sorting out your wardrobe? Or going to the movies? Remember that it is ok to eat when you are not hungry- if that’s what you need in that moment. Just being aware is the first step.

BEWARE of pseudo-dieting. ° ° ° My body was craving a salad with nuts (preferably candied), beets, and a thin flavorful dressing (in this case, balsamic). This salad SUCKED! And I started thinking about the intuitive eating anecdote: if you don't love it, don't eat it. And if you love it, savour it. ° ° ° But I was hungry! This salad was far from delicious, but it satisfied my physical hunger, at least. & that is just it! Yes, I am in a phase/stage where I'm trying to eat what I want when I want and not to label foods as "good" or "bad"...but when you rigidly cling to that sort of a mentality and just make intuitive eating another set of "rules" to be followed, are you really free? ° ° ° The point is, this salad was less than delicious but I was so hungry I ate parts of it anyway. I was no longer hungry afterwards, and isn't that part of becoming a "normal eater"? #intuitiveeating #haes #edrecovery #recoverywarrior #pseudodieting

Art by me @deconstruct.health #dhqueerart . . Weight stigma is so pervasive in our society and has done nothing but cause shame for our bodies. It has constructed a culture that demonizes fat bodies as lazy, less healthy, and less worthy of love and care. . You CANNOT tell a person’s health just from looking at them. Our physical appearances are not a clear indicator of our health! Also solely focusing on physical health fails to address the entire picture, when our emotional and psychological health can also affect our health outcomes. . My challenge for you today is take a look in the mirror and tell yourself that you love the body you’re in! Love your body at every stage it’s in because you are worth it! . . If you like my content 😊 Please Follow, Tag your friends, and Re-post! So we can all #deconstructhealth! . Don’t want to miss any content? Turn on post notifications 🤗

My biggest mom life/busy life/newborn baby life nutrition hack? Keep food SO simple. I literally do not have the time (and honestly, who does?) to make elaborate recipes, but that doesn’t mean my food choices have to be out of line with what makes me feel the best. Throw a bunch of vegetables you enjoy in a bowl, toss some EVOO on top, add salt, pepper and some garlic (or whatever seasoning!), and roast it at 400 degrees until your desired roasted level🥦. And always make extra for leftovers.

Overheard at the taco place: “Ew pineapple on a taco? That would ruin the whole thing for me!” 😳🍍 ... Immediately I thought, “Wow...there are very few things that could ruin this taco for me!” ... But actually, thats not true. ... For over a decade I let a lot of things ruin tacos for me. ... The terror I felt after eating something I couldn’t track in MyFitnessPal. ... The waves of guilt for ordering a tortilla instead of a lettuce wrap. ... The shame of wanting something so “indulgent” when I had just committed to eating “clean.” ... The act of silently comparing my order and my body to those of everyone around me. ... Adopting an intuitive eating practice gave me the physical permission to eat formerly forbidden foods (like tacos!) but it also gave me the emotional permission to ENJOY those foods. ... To truly taste them instead of mindlessly inhaling them when I fell off the wagon. ... To figure out what satisfied me holistically. What made me feel nourished and strong. What upset my stomach or left me feeling hungry again an hour later. ... Essentially, Intuitive Eating gave me permission to get to know myself and my preferences without judgement. ... One thing I figured out... I ❤️🌮’s! Al pastor with extra pineapple and zero guilt, please!

Sometimes you think you’ve officially arrived only to realize that you’re not even close ~that maybe that ‘place’ that you seek doesn’t even exist. And so it is with recovery. Or at least mine. Some days are light and right and others are weighty and unsure. As much as I feel I am solidly in recovery, 18 months in, to say that I never hear the siren call for a thinner body would be a lie. There are days, like this day, when I’m pining for my old thinner body like I would an old boyfriend that I know is no good for me. And yet. The thoughts are there. The fantasy of ‘this time it might be different’ is also there. But I know better. There are no straight lines. There are valleys and mountains and everything in between. This is recovery. This is life.

Intuitive Eating ✨ Body Image

  • 19.07.2018 02:27
  • 1

[Part 3/6] Yesterday, we concluded that more food knowledge does not equal better food behaviour. But WHY not? Why does it confuse us? ✨ Nutritionism, a term coined by Gyorgy Scrinis, describes our current, highly reductive approach to food, whereby we try to understand food in terms of nutrients – “to make connection between particular nutrients and bodily health, and to construct “nutritionally balanced” diets on this basis.” This way of looking at food has become the norm – rarely, if ever, questioned by nutrition experts or the institutions making dietary recommendations for us, the general public. ✨ So what’s the problem?? Well, unfortunately, when we pull food apart and study it’s building blocks – when we focus on the minutiae of food – we can rarely, if ever, take that information and apply it to the complex LIVED experience of eating. Kind of like pulling apart your bike: studying the parts, how they fit together, how the parts interact, what the parts are made of, and then trying to use that information to teach someone how to RIDE the bike. (Not a perfect analogy but you see where I'm going....:) ✨ We get a lot of contradictory, quickly changeable results when we study food at such a reductive level. What’s found true for one expert is refuted by the next. This approach also undermines/overwhelms other important ways of looking at food and experiencing food – including, but not limited to: the benefit of eating socially, the power of pleasure, the wisdom in traditional approaches to food and cuisine, and our own biological feedback. It teaches us we must rely on experts to tell us how to eat, keeping up with the latest studies, and it makes us susceptible to food marketing where these tidbits of information are used/misused to manipulate our food purchases. ✨ It’s confusing because it’s out of context. There is no one single perfect diet – there are many “right” ways to eat. Different diets are effective for different people under different circumstances. So what can YOU do? How can you figure out what’s right for you?? Stay tuned….we can tackle that tomorrow!! 😘

Take a second and think about the people in your life. Have you ever noticed that those with the healthiest relationships with food are those who have never dieted, have always believed all foods fit, and never tried to manipulate their body? Diets are the problem. It is pretty apparent when we imagine that person is our lives that have never done these things. It’s a rare find but it is pretty eye opening. You can have that too. Dieting doesn’t have to be part of your life. #ditchthedietchallenge ebook coming soon 🤘🏼

It's been a little cooler the last few days so that means some real cooking and baking 🙌 lately since I've started doing yoga much more regularly and taking daily walks, sometimes twice, my appetite is pretty nuts and I LOVE to have a big bowl like this on the reg. And big bowls = the best bowls 👏 Dinner deets: a bed of @traderjoes 10-minute farro (I put so much stuff on top that you couldn't see it until I started eating, in the second pic 😂) topped with green lentils, kalamata olives, @organicgirl spring mix, sauteed zucchini and summer squash, and lovely piece of baked salmon 😋 all drizzled with white balsamic vinaigrette 💕 . . . . #intuitiveeating #haes #dinnerideas #eeeeeats #foodfreedom #selfcare #selflove #bopo #bodypositivity #eatingdisorderrecovery #wholefoods #ditchthediet #dietssuck #makepeacewithfood #permissiontoeat #rd2be #registereddietitian #healthyeats #comfortfood #refuel #allfoodsfit

40 lbs ago I had all day energy. 40 lbs ago I had more muscle and could lift heavy things. 40 lbs ago I only thought of food 10% of the time. 40 lbs ago I didn’t really like my body, but I accepted it. 40 lbs ago I was HAPPY. I let diet culture take these things, and much more, from me. Reading this book has helped me to take the baby steps toward recovery. I hate that they are baby steps, but I understand it won’t happen overnight. I feel like I can start to see the light at the end of the tunnel. And that fills me with the hope to wake up and take on each day. #intuitiveeating #dietculture #HAES #foodfreedom #dietssuck #eatingdisorders

Girl🗣—I only eat non-processed, whole, #realfoods . •Me🗣—You know that the kombucha, plant-based milk, chickpea pasta, and sprouted whole grain bread in your pictures are processed, right?? 🤷‍♀️ • • In all seriousness, it kinda bugs me that processed foods have become so victimized. 😕 I’ve worked with a variety of low-income populations and the reality is that processing DOES hold value in our society. If I have a client who purchases canned veggies over fresh because of the price—I’m happy that they’re including vegetables in their routine! 🙌🏻 • • I think it’s important to meet people where they are and have perspective in life. At times, it’s an absolute privilege to follow a fancy #cleaneating , #paleo , #whole30 , #keto , and whatever the heck other fad diet. And I often feel there is a lot of judgement towards people who do eat processed foods (even though we all literally do!!) • • • • • #intuitiveeating #healthateversize #spillingthebeans #banza #haes #processed #processedfoods ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

The Hungry Feminine

Yesterday I said the repression of the feminine principle in our culture is a problem for lots of reasons. Here's one: our psychic life source has been cut off. We're going through the day-to-day motions of checking off boxes, reaching goals, arguing over politics, dominating other people, building new technology, counting money, all the while the nourishment of our souls has been restricted; suffocated into a state of being where even those within whom the feminine is most predominant struggle to recognize it. We. Are. Starving. Now imagine if we applied that archetypal image to eating disorders, included it in body, not just psyche... . ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------- . #antidiet #depthpsychology #unconscious #bingeeating #edrecovery #psychology #therapy #counseling #therapisttools #therapists #bed #bopo #emotionaleating #mentalhealth #mentalhealthawareness #foodasmedicine #psychstudents #foodpsych #psychgrad #selfcare #quotes#haes #feedthefeminine

Stumbled across this 💎 today and IF IT’S NOT THE REALEST OF REAL TALK I don’t know what is 🙌⠀ ...⠀ Diets don’t work for weight loss in >95% of people, and for the remaining 5% it’s not sustainable long-term. Add in the fact that weight and body size are not determinants of overall wellness to begin with, dieting causes physiological and psychological HARM, diet culture is sold to us for profit, and people in larger bodies have actually been proven to live longer lives, and we’re left with... what, exactly? What are diets doing for us again?⠀ ⠀ Let’s stop dieting and START LIVING instead. 🙌 #dietssuck #theend

I went for a run today and had a couple big wins. One was challenging the voice that made me think about how this run could justify a “treat” (The thought was triggered as I smelled bacon 🥓 mmmm... bacon). 😋 I do NOT run to lose weight, earn food or any other myriad of diet culture infused reasons. I run to sweat and challenge myself and move and clear out the cobwebs in my brain. If I want bacon I’ll have some. End of story. And then, as I finished up my run I encountered a man and his grandson. We had a friendly chit chat about it being a beautiful day and yadda yadda yadda I challenged him on the running as a great way to lose weight comment he threw out. It was so innocent and I certainly didn’t take offence to it but I needed him to know that I didn’t care about the weight and I was running just because I wanted to. It felt so good to claim that in a world that believes the only reason we move is to put ourselves into a smaller body.

Disclaimer: you don’t need need to be with another person to find happiness, love or fulfillment in life. There is no such thing as a perfect relationship (ours is by no means perfect). You also don’t need another person’s approval in order to accept yourself. And you certainly don’t need to be in a relationship to discover a healthy relationship with food and your body. BUT. This man is getting a quick shout out because he doesn’t get nearly as much praise as he deserves. He was the driving force in my journey toward intuitive eating. He helped me to see in myself what I refused to, and unearthed my innate desire to live fully, without the arbitrary rules I had assigned to myself. He helped me realize that so much of my self worth and identity had been wrapped up in food and exercise, and how my constant striving for “health” was actually preventing me from living my best life. He taught me that life is meant to be enjoyed, including what I ate and how I moved my body. Because of him (the most normal eater I’ve ever met), I think less and less about food and more about the things that really matter. He continues to call me out on my people pleasing, self-critical tendencies, and lets me know when I’m making things harder for myself than they need to be. I never imagined I would meet someone with a heart as gigantic as his, but I’m so lucky I did 💗

Don't let that BMI shit get in your head. Ditch the scale. Move your body in ways that feel good. Meditate so you can reconnect with your body's signals. Your meditation practice will make mindful eating easy. You won't over eat and you'll naturally start choosing foods that make you feel good because you'll be aware of how foods impact your energy. You are so much more than some arbitrary number, be it BMI or the damn scale. Finally wrote another blog post! 🙌🏽 peep the link in my bio to read about my experience becoming a “normal” eater. (I put normal in quotes because everyone’s definition of normal is different, and that is 100% cool and amazing because differing perspectives make the 🌎 go round 💯) • • • Being a normal eater to me means not being crazy around food. It means being able to go to a social event or gathering and have a couple bites of something and be satisfied, or eat a whole lot but not feel guilty about it. Being a normal eater means that sandwiches and salads and cookies and tacos and pasta are on an even moral playing field. It also means that I do pay attention to nutrition because I care about my body and want to make sure it is healthy. It means having a pint of real ice cream in my freezer for over a month because I don’t need to finish it right away; ice cream will always be there if I want it and I can have it whenever I want. It means making choices about food and exercise in the name of health instead of vanity. It means exercising because I know it is good for me instead of exercising to earn a “cheat meal.” Being a normal eater means I have food freedom and have space in my brain and in my life for so much more. • • • #normaleating #intuitiveeating #allfoodsfit #haes #healthateverysize #nutrition #gentlenutrition #allfoodsfit #kanesdonuts #bostoneats

For many people fitness is synonymous with thinness or weight loss. This is totally inaccurate and unhelpful. Fit bodies come in all shapes and sizes. Thinness is largely genetically predetermined with 95% of us having genes which will never allow us to healthily achieve the 'thin ideal'. The problem is not our bodies, our health and fitness messaging is wrong.

Love this quote from @sonyareneetaylor in @thebodyisnotanapology .⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ .⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ I had some time off to read- wow, I love this book! My only hardship is it’ll be hard to go back & find quotes because I keep highlighting every word. 🤷‍♀️ It’s so good: a MUST read! ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ .⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ I love this quote because it speaks to reality I’ve come to understand, & definitely was ignorant to for most of my life. A few years ago the words “ableism” and “healthism” would have been fairly foreign to me (not proud to admit it but true). I believed we all SHOULD seek to be “healthy” & assumed most people had relative control over their health (read: I’ve got a lot of privilege).⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ .⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ This is a damaging belief system- for my relationship to myself & others! Personally, it kept me from trusting my body for many years. I remember experiencing joint pain around age 8, yet it didn’t seem other kids did, adults seemed unconcerned, I learned to minimize it, too. I learned “I must be weak, ignore the pain.” I’ve had numerous health scares which for years no one could connect. I thought there was something wrong with me, my body. I was constantly trying to “fix” it bc I figured the problem must be something I was doing. Now I know, my body has an illness- it has unique struggles but it’s not bad or wrong. It needs care, not blame.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ .⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ My body doesn’t function like most other humans. I don’t love that & I’m learning to make peace & appreciate the body I have, to value the ways it’s long been trying to communicate with me about what it needs.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ .⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Also, my ability to care for my body as I do is based upon a platform of privilege that not all have. I have choices about where I live & work, when I work, access to healthcare, a wide support system & the financial ability to buy things that support or soothe my body. This is all privilege, not accessible to all.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ .⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Health is NOT equally accessible to all, nor is it a mandate to pursue!⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ #wholeembodied #haes #bodypositive #chronicillness #fatpositive #edrecovery #ableism

I believe a lot of negative body image comes from comparing ourselves to a cultural standard of beauty. I think self acceptance can happen much more easily when we change our environment and the culture we are in. It has been proven that body acceptance is a key aspect of healing dangerous, unhealthy eating behaviors and eating disorders. And get this, people who feel better about their body tend to have healthier eating and exercising habits. THAT is the reason I believe body love and body acceptance (and self love and self acceptance) is the key to health and happiness. This can be said for healthy behavior change and about 1000 subjects but let’s focus on relationships today. Review: Shame = I am a bad person = I’m unloveable/I’m not good enough/I’m unworthy/I’m responsible Guilt = I did a bad thing There’s a big difference between the two and while no one wants to feel either (though we all do!), shame is the most toxic. It’s also correlated with anxiety, depression, disordered eating, addiction, and other mental health issues. . Making someone feel like a bad person so they will (usually temporarily) change just to make your life easier is not going to get you the results you’re looking for. We often do this unintentionally! Even if they do change, you WILL find the next thing that inconveniences you. Our life is too short to live like this and it’s going to drive you crazy if you feel like someone else manages your emotions. **Only you are responsible for your feelings. Your feelings are developed by your thoughts on the situation, and our thoughts can be changed! . Shaming includes putting someone down, calling them names, talking down to them, etc. Just because they didn’t mow the lawn doesn’t mean they’re lazy or the worst. Even if saying this motivates them to mow unprovoked for the rest of the summer, you’ve planted the seed you think they are unloveable or not good enough. We begin to see the world through these beliefs which means whatever you do/say could be interpreted as you don’t think they’re good enough. Is that what you meant? . 1: THEY are not the problem. The behavior is so be sure you separate those two. 2: It might not actually be the behavior but rather your thoughts on the behavior. Ask yourself why was this important to you and what are you making it mean that they did this? They don’t love you? You’re not good enough? 3: Ask what’s up. ‘Hey, how are you doing, how did your day go? What happened to mowing the lawn?’ 4: Listen. Don’t just hear. 5: Everyone is doing their best! If it’s important to you perhaps you could do it. Maybe they do other things/chores you don’t?? 6: It’s ok to have these feelings, this is triggering your own core beliefs. Practice empathy and compassion!

I know it sounds confusing because when we think of “diets” we think of fad diets like Keto, paleo, south beach, Atkins. But here’s the thing- if you are intentionally trying to lose weight by counting calories, counting points, tracking your food intake, saving up for a fun meal by eating less, ignoring hunger cues 👉🏻you my friend are on a diet. These behaviors consolidate into a diet that is made up of self imposed rules. Self imposed diets and fad diets alike don’t work! What’s so wrong with diets anyway? Well did you know that 95% of all diets fail? Dieting is the #1 weight gain predictor of all time? Only 5% of people who go on a diet maintain the weight that they lost? Over a 1/3 of people who diet gain back their weight they lost and 1/3 gain back the weight they lost and then some? Dieting perpetuates the restrict/binge cycle? Dieting puts you at risk for developing disordered eating? Not to mention a life full of rules and rigidity is not a fulfilled one. These statistics aren’t talked about amongst diet advocates because it is a money guzzling industry that certainly doesn’t have your best interest in mind. Their goal is to make it sound as compelling as possible. If someone you know if telling you how great their diet is, it’s most likely because they feel the need to justify their own behaviors. You can make your health a priority without dieting and without being weight focused. Your weight will find where it needs to be naturally when listening to its internal cues. Isn’t that liberating?!?! Peace out diets, peace out self imposed food and exercise rules! You are no longer needed huurrr ✌🏼✌🏼

The Hungry Feminine Anorexia, bulimia, and binge eating disorder share more commonalities

Anorexia, bulimia, and binge eating disorder share more commonalities in food relationships than they don't. In fact, the component that separates them isn't food, it's body. Someone with binge eating disorder may unconsciously desire to gain or maintain a heavier weight for many reasons specific to the individual, which may or may not include protection against the predatory male, rebellion against a culture that sees worth only in thinness, avoidance of intimacy, etc. You might not necessarily equate a quest for perfection with this person who may very well be giving the 🖕 to a society that thinks it knows better. And yet perfectionism is the very thing a binger often gets lost behind, working on overdrive in many aspects of their lives to maintain a certain level of precision and goodness so that they never have to truly be vulnerable with others. Moreso, it's so they have ample reason to criticize and punish themselves when their unattainable self-imposed expectations inevitably cannot be met. Perfection isn't about self-improvement or being the best, most developed version of yourself, it's about keeping others at a distance so they never see who you really are. It's a bright, sparkly, pristine distraction. Perfection isn't attainable. Not ever. And yet we chase it so furiously that we forget to live in our messy selves in the messy moment with other messy folks. Is this because we were taught to carry shame about who we are? You tell me. P.S. CHECK MY STORIES FOR A CHUCKLE ABOUT THE PULL OF PERFECTIONISM. 😒 . ------------------------------------------------------------ . #antidiet #depthpsychology #unconscious #bingeeating #edrecovery #psychology #therapy #counseling #therapisttools #therapists #bed #bopo #emotionaleating #mentalhealth #mentalhealthawareness #foodasmedicine #psychstudents #foodpsych #psychgrad #selfcare #quotes#haes

REMINDER: Whole30, Keto, Paleo, Weight Watchers and other diet and lifestyle programs do not OWN Food Freedom. . *cue: unfollows and loss of respect*😏 . EXAMPLE: Food freedom is not just “Whole30 with a little bit of gluten free grains and some dairy” for MOST people. Food Freedom is NOT supposed to be another diet or set of strict rules to follow! And damnit it’s not a club you “fit in to” just because you talk the talk and buy all the cool foods! . Food freedom is the state your body AND mind are at when food no longer CONTROLS you. When you no longer unhealthily count, track, obsess over or feel bad about posting a picture of something that is "off plan".... ANY plan. . After a mini-binge episode I've kept quiet and months of obsessing, tracking, weighing and trying to "find my place" (which I've also kept quiet), I've realized I am nowhere NEAR finished doing the work it takes to get there. . I believe Food Freedom starts in your head. It starts in your thoughts and it starts with HOW and WHY you eat, not just WHAT you eat. Personally, I can’t start a healthy diet and expect long-term success without a healthy brain driving my thoughts about myself and my habits around food. . Im not sure what this looks like, but I'm going on this journey yet again, this time with help. Help from the people that support me, help from friends and family and honestly, help from a professional because it's THAT important to me now and I am ready to admit it. . IF YOU’RE READY TO HEAR THIS: don't waste any more time thinking a single diet or lifestyle program can "save you" completely because those things, at least for me are only PART of the process. . My brain is bursting with thoughts and fears and so much to say, but for right now, this is where I’m at 💜

Snack • July 18th // My fav thing to do lately is make a huuuuge Greek salad to munch on throughout the week 😋 I love Greek salad but I’m lazy about making it when I’m hungry— so this way it’s already ready :D Just chopped up two heads of romaine, three bell peppers, 2 small cucumbers, ~1.5-2 cups of lil tomatoes, 1/2 jar kalamata olives, peperoncini peppers to taste and toss it with @primalkitchenfoods Greek dressing whenever I serve it! You can also make your own vinaigrette with red wine vinegar, olive oil, lemon juice, salt, pepper, and oregano, and throw in chick peas if you want it to be more substantial :^)

If you listen, your body is telling you so much every moment of each day. The challenge is, we usually exist from the neck up where it feels comfortable and logical and linear and without emotion. . . But what happens when you breathe into your belly? Or when you acknowledge the sadness in your heart or the excitement in your toes or the anger in your chest? . . This is important because we cannot become aware of the more subtle nuances of what the body is telling us, such as hunger and fullness, if we are unable to acknowledge, understand and give compassion to the feelings, thoughts and physical sensations that are housed throughout the body. . .
