Working late this evening, I’m thinking of my client who brought me these flowers and told me that I had saved her life. All I could think about was how little I had done in comparison to what she had gone through and done herself. She is a testament to resilience. After a decade of violent treatment at the hands of a vicious sadist from a culture that celebrates subservience in women, she fled her country and made it to the United States. Once here, she was homeless, impoverished, and had next to no community. Still, she persisted. She came on time to every appointment, smiling, and ready to face the horrors of her past to secure a safe future. Needless to say, she was granted asylum and is finally safe. I write all of this to share something sweet and to ask you to support immigrants, always. We are stronger together.
