Wow! I just watched #masterchef#season7 and saw #bibimbap#bibimbab was on the challenge.
As a Korean, i felt excited and frustrated at the same time to see how Americans would interpret this dish. And to my surprise, all the interpretations were so beautiful that i felt like i learned something new about my own culture, my food. The pictures above were taken when my sister was visiting, and it is interesting that i hadnโt cooked bibimbap for her for a long time because it was such a staple. Then she said one morning, โHey sis, iโve always loved bibimbap.โ I guess i have forgotten she and i were koreans indeed.
The secret or the fundamentals of traditional bibimbap is that there are a variety of vegetables cooked with a bit of oil. I know i do not represent the entire country, but for my part, i feel that this country was not abundant with proteins. So whenever you make a dish, you have to make sure you try to add a little bit of protein and oil so the dish is balanced, nutrition-wise. Again, I felt so amazed to see how the constestants cooked my soul food. It gave me a new look on the food. BTW, no bastami rice! It had to be the long sticky eastasian rice:) The whole thing about bibimbap is having these different ingredients harmonized, and sticky rice will do the justice. Just excited to see the old episode. Thanks.
