If you’re about to read this and your attempt to get clean or a more toned stomach is cardio and crunches, just me say this. - As long as you keep trying that, you’ll never get it. - Never. - But you will if you start doing the things that actually work. Like compound lifts — deadlifts, squats, lunges, pushes, pulls and even carries. - And variations of them. - I call them fat loss workouts to get your attention — compound lifts isn’t all that interesting. - They’re just damn effective for the goals you want. More definition, leanness, tone. Or adding muscle. - The exercises, for the most part, stay the same. Of course, use variations but don’t be afraid to get strong at your favorites by working at them consistently. - Change the reps but mostly between 5-12. - Change the sets but usually around 3-4. - Choose about 5-7 per workout. - If focusing fat loss and weight loss — eat less, and do less sets and likely less reps. - If adding muscle without fat, eat more but add calories slowly. Maybe add some sets and reps and do more overall work. - But give that cardio and abs less space in your plan and start doing what everyone who’s ever got the results you’re looking for did: - Got stronger in the movements above. And focused on their nutrition. - PS When writing “focused on their nutrition” it auto-corrected to “burrito”. Repost @getfitwithbola by @media.repost: So your weight's not moving (or it’s incredibly slow)… ⠀ I guess that means you’re not making progress, aye? ⠀ ... are you sure about that? 😉 ⠀ You see, we use the word “weight loss” as a catch-all term for going from heavy & unhealthy to fit & healthy. ⠀ And yes, part of that is often losing body weight... ⠀ But do NOT fall for the trap of thinking that your scale weight is all that matters! ⠀ It’s like clockwork ⏰… ⠀ I’ll get a message: “Hey Carter, I’m not making progress. What gives?” ⠀ I’ll answer back: “Yo dawg, what’s going down? Talk to me.” ⠀ They’ll say: “Well, the scale hasn’t moved much the past month…” ⠀ To which I’ll reply: “How about your measurements, pics, workouts, and clothes fit? Have those things been changing or improving at all?” ⠀ And they’ll reply: “Yeah… I haven’t been tracking those other things…” ⠀ If you’re only looking at changes in body weight to determine the success or failure of your plan, you’re doing yourself a huge disservice. ⠀ The scale is a helpful tool, but it’s just one tool. ⠀ One of many that you have in your progress tracking toolbox 🛠 ⠀ My Advice 👉👉 there's nothing wrong with using the scale to monitor progress (especially if you’re using it the right way by finding weekly and monthly averages). ⠀ But(t🍑) don’t let your body weight be the end all be all ❌ … ⠀ Make sure you’re also looking at changes in: ⠀ Measurements ✅ How Clothes Fit ✅ Progress Pictures ✅ Workout Performance ✅ And How You Actually Feel! ✅ ⠀ Here’s what I do with most of my clients: ⠀ —> weigh-in daily and look at 7-14 day averages (even monthly averages) ⠀ —> measurements every 2-3 weeks ⠀ —> progress pictures every 4-6 weeks ⠀ —> weekly self-assessment of hunger, energy levels, and reflection on anything experienced the previous week they consider as progress (beating a craving, getting a compliment, etc.) @cartergood#cartergood #weightloss #losingweight #progress #makingprogress #fatloss #fatlossjourney #fitnessprogress #weightlossprogress #progresspic #progresspics #losinginches #losingfat #bodyweight #nsv #dieting #dieter #fitness #fitnessjourney #weightlosstips #weightlosssupport #weight

Miracles do happen after being stuck between 241 and 239 for the past months the scale finally moved to a new number! . . Lately I've been struggling with my own thoughts. I haven't been at the gym this week because I been working a lot and when I had time I wasn't feeling the greatest 🤢. Last night I wanted to say "fuck it" and binge eat. The food was there at work, pizza, doughnuts and chips. My urges were strong but my willpower was stronger. Right here, right meow 😼 ⠀ If you’re not enjoying your weight loss journey — you despise your diet, loathe grocery shopping, dread working out, etc. — then you’re doing yourself a tremendous disservice and something needs to change. 💥 Hey, don’t give up…. ⠀ Things can get pretty dark sometimes… ⠀ You can feel frustrated ⠀ You can feel lost ⠀ You can feel like you’ll never be able to accomplish your fitness goals ⠀ It can come right out of nowhere too - or after not seeing progress as fast as you had expected… ⠀ Whatever the case may be — don’t give up 😊 ⠀ Because if you did, what would you be going back to? ⠀ Usually, that thought alone reminds me of the pain of my old ways, and going back to that is a no no ❌ 🙅‍♂️ ⠀ Thoughts are such a powerful reflection tool to see the direction you’re moving in and how you’re feeling about where you’re at. ⠀ It’s like your own personal compass 👉 ⠀ We all have our fears, uncertainties, doubts, and everything in between. The reality is that they are always going to be there — in our heads, bothering us at the worst times… ⠀ Even your environment and the people around you can get the fears and nervous feels going to the point of shutting down your plans or desire for change… ⠀ Keeping peace of mind in those dark times first begins with not judging those thoughts. ⠀ I have negative thoughts every single freaking day, we all do 😅 ⠀ Acknowledge them. Gain perspective as to what you’re doing to get those thoughts. “Let go” and fill that gap with something you’re currently doing well with, no matter how big or small. ⠀ I love making little jokes or comments about negative thoughts, such as: ⠀ “Oh, that’s cute…” 🤣 “Wow I’m a funny guy to think that” and laugh under my breath 😂 ⠀ Something of the sort helps take the pressure off, because here’s the thing… ⠀ You cannot let your thoughts define who you are. Most negative thoughts you get are gained from limiting beliefs, past experiences, or society placing them upon you. ⠀ Sometimes I even imagine the really bad thoughts in my head as an album cover (weird I know) but then I take that cover and shatter it - like a hammer to a window! And then do my best to take my attention to positive thoughts… ⠀ You got this. Appreciate how far you’ve come and that you got started in the first place 🙂 ⠀ Keep moving forward! I feel a little weird posting this without my glasses, but the before picture was taken to use on zenni.com so I kind of have to 🤷🏻‍♀️ My old body was a result of my old choices: junk food on a daily basis 🍕🍔🍟 no exercise, and I mean EVER ❌🏃🏻‍♀️getting next to no sleep because I was working during the day and freelancing at night 💤 and most of all my mindset was GARBAGE 🗑 I am beyond grateful for the body I have now and for the ability to work my way to the body I want - not everyone is this fortunate. Intermittent fasting diets include many types of fasting such as not eating at all for 24 hours, or reducing drastically the number of calories you intake for two days during the week. There are different intermittent fasting methods. The most popular methods you can use are the following: 5:2 diet - This regime is based on intaking only a quarter of the daily energy requirements (only 500 kcal) two days a week (not two days in a row!) and eating normally the rest of the week. 16:8 method - Limit the number of hours for eating. For example, skip breakfast or dinner and eat only during a period of 8 hours, such as from 12 pm-8 pm. Eat-stop-eat method - This regime means not eating anything for 24 hours, and then eating “normally” for the next 24 hours. 🤔Here’s the truth on shaping and toning… ⠀ The look most are after comes down to: ⠀ 1) Building lean muscle (mainly in the 4-6 rep range) 2) Stripping away excess body fat ⠀ That's it. Easier said than done, of course 🤷‍♂️ ⠀ When folks go on crash diets, do tons of cardio, and high rep "toning" or "burning" workouts... ⠀ It creates the perfect storm for fat AND muscle loss, which ends up creating the "skinny fat" look when they hit their goal weight 😞 ⠀ They are skinnier and lighter but lack the shape and definition ⠀ Or, if one is eating too much and lifting weights, the “bulky” look is simply a matter of excess body fat 😅 ⠀ Training with heavier weights for strength will develop the actual muscle — higher reps tend to add more fluid around the muscle fibers and the burn is no real measure of progress or muscle growth😮 ⠀ Lastly, fat loss is a steady game of consistency — for fat loss, you shouldn’t go below a 25% calorie deficit from maintenance. Beyond that, your training will begin to suffer, and it’s not sustainable for the long-term 💯 ⠀ Hope that helps! #Repost @cartergood ・・・ If daily weight fluctuations are stressing you the eff out, PLEASE READ‼️ ⠀  If you give me 30-60 seconds of your time, I promise you’ll leave here having a much happier mindset with using the scale 😊 ⠀  Body weight can be a helpful tool for analyzing progress. The problem is that most people don’t know how to use it. ⠀  Most people see their weight day-to-day (or even week-to-week) and think the number flashing up at them is all that matters. ⠀  But your weight doesn’t tell the whole story... at least not in the short-term. ⠀  For example, after a day of overeating, you might weight yourself, see a 2-3 pound spike, and fearfully assume its 2-3 pounds of pure fat 😱 ⠀  That’s not what happened at all! 🙅‍♂️ ⠀  The 2-3 pounds you see has very little (if anything) to do with fat. It’s simply extra water 💦 and foodstuff in your digestive track💩 ⠀  Give yourself a day or two of following your normal plan, and that weight will flush right out! 🚽👍 ⠀  Unfortunately, most people take a different route... ⠀  Instead of getting back on track, they’ll cut calories 💀, do “guilt” cardio 😰, or just quit altogether 😔 ⠀  Don’t fall for that trap☝️ ⠀  Your weight on a single day does NOT define your progress as a whole. ⠀  The only time you should use body weight to analyze progress is when you’re looking at week-to-week or even month-to-month averages. ⠀  The Bottom Line —> when you wake up heavier (because it’ll happen at times), know that you don’t have to do anything to “recover.” ⠀  That’ll just stress you out and make things worse in the long run... ⠀  Instead, put it out of your mind and focus on what you CAN control ✅ ——— ⠀ #cartergood #weightloss #fatloss #losingweight #losingfat #dieting #dieter #fitness #weightlosssupport #weightlossjourney #bodyweight #fuckthescale #nsv #weightlossjourney #weightlossstruggle #weightlosshelp #fitness #weightlossprogress

I know, i knowwwww, ketchup from restaurants isn’t keto friendly but it had to happen today.. y’all it happened. REALLY hoping this doesn’t kick me in the butt when i step on the scale tomorrow. Two tablespoons of this caused me to go over my 20 net carbs for the day but I’m hoping the 500 calories i burned at the gym plus me not eating dinner will somehow balance it all out. Not sure if that’s how keto works but will 24 net carbs really kick me out of ketosis? 😫

You have bigger things to spend your time thinking about than your weight. ⠀ On Tuesday I was on the phone with a woman and when I asked why she felt like she wanted to get help with her weight loss, she said something that kind of surprised me and struck a chord. ⠀ She said, “Because I have bigger problems to worry about than my weight and yet it still consumes my thoughts and dictates how I feel on a regular basis.” ⠀ You have bigger things to worry and think about than your weight. Like your family, career, kids, relationship, finances, etc. ⠀ And yet, even with all of that, when you’re held back from doing certain things because of your weight or don’t feel confident in your body, it somehow is still the thing that consumes your thoughts. ⠀ Why? Because you feel like you can’t show up fully in those other situations if you’re not at peace and energized in your own body. ⠀ The thing is...it doesn’t have to be that way. ⠀ You CAN take back control. You can get to a place where your weight is no longer all-consuming. Where your weight doesn’t dictate how you feel mentally and physically or what you can and cannot do. ⠀ It’s possible. And if you don’t feel like you’re there yet, just keep trying. It may be a bumpy road, it may not be pretty, but it’s worth it. ⠀ Don’t give up. Food quality matters from a health, energy, sustainability and results perspective. Everybody knows that you can't eat "dirty" all the time and hope to make progress or feel good. ⠀ ➖⠀ That’s why pizza, pop tarts, ice cream & skittles should not be the bulk of your diet. However, it’s totally cool if you fit them into your diet, and allow flexibility. This is where the "FLEX” side comes into play, as opposed to just “IIFYMing” it.⠀⠀ ➖⠀ Flexible Dieting is the idea that 70-80% of your daily calorie intake should come from whole, healthy foods like lean proteins, fruits, veggies, whole grains and healthy fats. The problem is that most people don’t know how to use it. ⠀ Most people see their weight day-to-day (or even week-to-week) and think the number flashing up at them is all that matters. ⠀ But your weight doesn’t tell the whole story... at least not in the short-term. ⠀ For example, after a day of overeating, you might weight yourself, see a 2-3 pound spike, and fearfully assume its 2-3 pounds of pure fat 😱 ⠀ That’s not what happened at all! 🙅‍♂️ ⠀ The 2-3 pounds you see has very little (if anything) to do with fat. If you want to get shredded, make sure to take these pros and cons into account: - PROS: The pros are pretty obvious. If you lose a lot of fat, you’ll look shredded, you’ll be a lot more vascular with poppin veins, and your muscle will look a lot more noticeable with little body fat to cover it up. - CONS: While the pros are great, the cons can be difficult at times. To lose fat and get shredded, you usually have to be on very low calories, which will cause a loss in energy, a decrease in mood, and it can also cause you to lose some strength in the gym in you cut too aggressively. - I would say the best case scenario if you want to lose fat is to take it SLOW. Don’t just immediately drop your calories to an unreasonable number. Slowly decrease them over time at a rate that is sustainable for you. - Do the pros of fat loss outweigh the cons?
