Making our first batch of
#grainspawn in
#2019 🍄🍄🍄 currently using our kitc
hen table as a workspace 🏡🐾 Grainspawn is essential for growing your own mushrooms. Grainspawn is what we use to inoculate our substrate which is typically a mix of wood chips- shavings, gypsum and water. Grainspawn helps penetrate your substrate with a larger surface area and gives your mycilium a little extra food!
1. To make our grainspawn we soaked our grains over night, boiled them for 20 mins, drained them, filled Mason jars half way with grain, placed a piece of tyvek over the lip of the jars and closed the lids.
2. Next we pressure cooked our jars for about an hour and let the pressure cooker cool down.
3. We prepared our homemade "clean room" by placing our #flowhood on our kitchen table and letting it run for awhile before getting to work. We cleaned our workspace and jars with isipropal alcohol, sterilized our knife to cut a mycilium chunk from our agar plate and carefully transferred the agar mycilium into our sterilized grain jars in front of the flow hood!
4. We will wait about 1-2 weeks for our mycilium to colonize the grain!
