âI feel like I eat really healthy in the day, itâs just those nights after the kids are in bed⌠I turn into an animal. đ Itâs like Iâm on a hunt but, I donât know for what. This probably sounds really weird?â When my client Mark & I started to dive into his habits, we started to uncover a deeper root cause behind his late night eating - STRESS. đ¤Śđťââď¸ Heâs leading a big company, w/ stressful decisions + long hours, & comes home to a loving (but large) family, w/ their own activities, & demands at home. At the end of the day, when the house is quiet, heâs left w/ that undercurrent of anxiety, stress, constant âto doâ lists so what happens? Like MOST of us, Mark reached for food - a comfort, a friend, something to distract us + take us to a place of happy âhighsâ where we continue to light up serotonin/happy chemicals in the brain⌠Itâs all rainbows until⌠the chocolate chip cookie is gone. đAnd then, we want that fix again, we want to alleviate the stress, the root cause behind our eating, & so we search for more food. .
This habit is not âweirdâ at all, itâs a coping mechanism your brain has learned to repeat. In order to create a new habit loop, weâve got to stop the cycle in itâs tracks + dig it out from itâs roots! đą Itâs like a weed, if we cut weeds from the surface, they are always going to keep coming back. So, if youâre in need of an actual SOLUTION, we need to get to the ROOT of the issue - & thatâs the emotions + how to handle those feelings behind food. âĄď¸
