One of my favourite things to do when dealing with an injury, or any other type of illness, is spending half an hour in the sun each morning and again in the late afternoon. No sunscreen. As much skin exposed as possible. It’s both good for the soul and it supports your body in healing inflammation. The sun will not age you or your skin, but rather do the complete opposite, when coupled with the right nutrition. Bio-individuality in mind. • “When we merge our bodies with the sun’s cathodic, cosmic rays, pores dilate deeply below the epidermis to receive the seminal influence of the sun’s confluence, melting and melding with our body’s ways to produce melanin and to lubricate the skin, organs, muscles, and marrow. While all these terms may make you feel like you're making a more ethical choice; while all these terms might conclude that the animals may have a bit of a better treatment and are being fed better food; at the end of the day, they are all being raised for the same reason and they're all ending up in the same place: a slaughter house. It breaks my heart. These words are euphemisms for the bigger picture. I still advocate for the words organic, locally grown, and whole foods, though when it pertains to plants. . Super easy recipe and meal prep idea! Chicken fajitas! 🤤 - Ingredients: 💥 Chicken breasts (I used two large breasts cuz it’s just me eating them) 💥 one yellow bell pepper 💥 one red bell pepper 💥 1/3 of a diced onion 💥 garlic powder 💥 salt 💥pepper 💥 cumin 💥 red pepper Note: all seasonings are to your taste. I don’t like spicy so I used minimal amounts of seasonings! - Steps: 1. Place whole chicken breasts in crockpot 2. Slice up bell peppers and dice onion and place in crock pot 3. Add seasonings to your liking on top 4. Place crockpot on low for 6.5-7 hours. This is how I started my morning, chocolate protein buckwheat porridge, so delicious and EASY! Recipe is GF, RSF, DF & vegan: ⁣ ⁣ * 1/2 cup buckwheat ⁣ * 15g vegan choc @happywayau protein powder ⁣ * 2 tbsn cacao powder ⁣ * 2 tbsn granulated sweetener (I use Stevia)⁣ * 1 cup milk (I use pea milk 'Like Milk')⁣ * 3 tbsn amaranth puffs ⁣ * 2 tbsn psyllium husk ⁣ * As many blueberries and coconut yoghurt as your heart desires (I love @nakulaorganic ) * Toppings: sprinkle with coconut flakes, cacao nibs, amaranth puffs, cinnamon, blueberries ⁣ ⁣ 1. Soak buckwheat groats overnight, rinse.⁣ 2. Add buckwheat and milk to saucepan, then slowly bring to boil over medium heat then turn down to low to gently simmer until buckwheat is soft and cooked (10-15 mins).⁣ 3. Add protein powder, cacao powder, amaranth puffs, psyllium husk and sweetener and mix well. You may need to add more to less milk if it's too thick, or more psyllium husk if too runny. Add sweetener to taste.⁣ 4. It comes as no surprise that training fasted speeds up the process from burning glycogen (glycolysis) to burning fat (ketosis). Last week I did a little self-experiment. I tracked everything. Here it is in short. 1. 7 day fasting average = 20 hours 2. Calorie consumption 2700-3000 calories - 1800-2000 coming from carbohydrates. Exercise routine: 60 minute 24km cycle (fasted) and 120 minute heavy weight session (fasted and fed) My last meal would be at around 8pm. My bike ride would be complete by 9am typically my average blood ketone levels were at 0.5mmol post cycle. 13 hours after a heavy carbohydrate meal. I was able to reach a ketogenic state again. I put this down to 3+ hours of exercise a day and 20 hour fasting window. A study looking at muscle fibers before and after training in a fasted state found the combination of low insulin and high adrenalin levels created by the fasted state stimulates the breakdown of fat and the burning of fat for energy. In the seminar Luke and I did on sleep and stress last month we touched on melatonin however I wanted to share a bit more info on this hormone. Melatonin is a hormone produced in the pineal gland and retina, it’s the hormone which controls our sleep patterns but is also plays a role in glucose metabolism and reproduction. When looking to improve your lifestyle, sleep plays a vital role in body composition, muscle hypertrophy, cancer, type 2 diabetes and also mental health conditions. As melatonin is the sleepy hormone there are strategies we can implement to improve sleep 😴 Light exposure before bed suppresses melatonin release which delays our feelings of sleepiness, by reducing light exposure 2 hours before by dimming lights and reducing technology will improve melatonin release and improve feelings of sleepiness 💤 Exposure to sunlight first thing in the morning can also suppress melatonin and increase feelings of wakefulness. If throughout the day you feel tired try heading outside to get some light exposure and take a few deeps breaths ☀️ As exposure to light is quite common wand at times hard to avoid, try reducing the background light on your phone, or blue light glasses are also beneficial for reducing light exposure. Talk to @lukebeezem he’s apparently now seeking blue light glasses as a side gig 😉🤣 Melatonin supression is also linked to higher rates of breast, bowel and rectocolon cancer. If you have struggle sleeping or are a shift worker, research has suggested supplementing with melatonin can be useful for regulating sleep. My husband and I were chatting last night about the various and common fears associated with making dietary changes. One of the concerns that I hear a lot of from folks is that they are not going to be able to eat the foods that they love anymore. That they will not enjoy their food as much, and that they will not be able to make delicious, satisfying meals. ⁣ ⁣ Me: You know it's funny. I enjoy my meals/food now way more than I can remember ever enjoying food/my meals in the past (prior to making changes to my food life😉). ⁣ ⁣ Cory: Ya know, I agree. I would say the same thing. ⁣ ⁣ I get it. We were there too. Change is hard, period. It's hard to imagine a life that is different from what you know, and it is even harder when you are faced with chronic illness, or other health concerns that you feel pushed you in this direction (and you aren't that thrilled about making changes). I am here to tell you that eating nutritious food that nourishes your body can be insanely delicious...and it doesn’t have to be complicated. Your meals do not need to look Instagram “worthy” or Pinterest pretty. What matters is nutrient density, and meeting your own bio-individual (unique) needs. It's been years since I have started my health journey, and I am STILL learning and adjusting things based on my changing health needs. ⁣ ⁣ Burgers are one of our favorite things❤️. Tonight I made grass-fed beef burgers with sauteed mushrooms and onions mixed into the meat. Can you say OMG? 😍🤤Topped with pastured bacon, more sautéed mushrooms/onion, tomato, @primalkitchenfoods mayo, organic ketchup and ground mustard.
