Excited to start using this guy today! The FORM Collar is a great tool that gives us a consistent objective method to make sure the training load is optimal. While the percents and RPE are still valid, without measuring velocity, it is not possible to determine objectively if the weight is being moved at the appropriate load for that given day, as strength is quite variable from day to day. This is essentially because our nervous system is never constant. According to a review paper from the Australian Strength and Conditioning Association, Jovanovic and colleagues’ used formulas by Jidovtseff to estimate a daily 1RM through the load-velocity profile. They noted an approximately 18% difference above and below the previously tested 1RM, meaning that there was a 36% range around the previously tested 1RM. Using tools such as the #formcollar we can get an objective method each and every training session/lift to make sure we are training optimally. @formlifting #clinicalathlete #performanceandwellnesschiro #velocitybasedtraining #vbt #training #trainoptimally #optimizinghumanability #crossfit #powerlifting #olympicweightlifting #trainsmarter #sportsperformance #humanperformance #southflorida #westpalmbeach #wellington #palmbeachgardens #chiropractor #physicaltherapy #sportsrehab

Excited to use our new compression bands from @spudincstraps that came in the mail today! These bands are 1 inch wider and 3 feet longer than your traditional compression band (see picture). We use compression therapy for a number of reasons: 1) The strong elastic compression will alter the fascia’s relation to all other aspects of the neuromusculoskeletal system when you move with it on. It will alter the neural input by making a change in the mechanical transmission of the fascial system (and it’s many mechanoreceptors). 2) There is a beneficial local endocrine response to temporary occlusion, resulting in the potential for increased healing pathways to be activated. 3) The compression bands act as a “Pattern Assist” via artificial joint centration, followed by active movement helping to improve range of motion and motor control when applied correctly. 4) That skin "strain" and feeling of compression during flossing is a strong kinaesthetic input to the CNS, potentially improving movement, as well as gating pain. @crossfitwild @crossfitpba @crossfitcityplace @crossfit1401 @gardenscrossfit @crossfitdoa @thecrossfitsquad @hewwelly @hewgardens @clinicalathlete @thompsonfatpad @hustlehardcrossfit #clinicalathlete #donniethompson #compression #performanceandwellnesschiro #optimizinghumanability #compressiontherapy #rehab #prehab #southflorida #palmbeachgardens #wellington #westpalmbeach #elephantband #spudinc

@Regrann from @performanceandwellnesschiro - The Psoas March is a great movement that challenges trunk and lumbopelvic stability and motor control. When performing this movement make sure to keep a neutral rib cage to pelvis relationship so that you challenge true hip flexion/extension instead of borrowing motion from the lumbar spine. With some exceptions, most muscle spasms in the body are due to some form of instability. The spasm is the bodies way of stabilizing the area. More often then not when we can properly stabilize, the spasms will subside. In the instance of the lumbar spine and hips, the Psoas can be neurologically "locked" due to an inability to brace and stabilize the lumbar spine via intrabdominal pressure. This movement when executed properly is a great way to challenge ones ability to stabilize the lumbar spine and hips and let the surrounding musculature function like it should. @clinicalathlete @crossfitpba @crossfitwild @crossfitcityplace @crossfit1401 @hustlehardcrossfit @hewwelly @hewpbg #clinicalathlete #performanceandwellnesschiro #optimizinghumanability #psoas #hips #lowbackpain #stability #motorcontrol #trunkshow #southflorida #wellington #palmbeachgardens #chiropractor #sportschiropractic #sportsrehab #rehab #prehab #deadbug #core #spinehealth #crossfit #powerlifting #olympicweightlifting #Regrann

As something that has been recently highlighted in the #rio2016olympics Cupping is one of the many Soft Tissue modalities we utilize in our office. While there are many uses for cupping, in our office we use it to help promote healing and recovery of damaged tissues. Inflammation often gets a bad name, but Acute Inflammation is actually beneficial and necessary for the healing process to occur. Acute Inflammation causes increased blood flow and increased permeability of the vasculature which brings neutrophils to the affected site as rapidly as possible. This protects the injured areas from further harm while the body goes into overdrive to fend off bacteria, viruses, pathogens, damaged cells, or other irritants. It not only kills off the invaders, but damaged tissue as well, until your body wins the battle. Without inflammation, wounds and infections would never heal. @clinicalathlete @crossfitwild @crossfitpba @crossfitcityplace @hustlehardcrossfit @crossfitdoa @gardenscrossfit @hewwelly @hewwpb @hardexerciseworkspbg #clinicalathlete #performanceandwellnesschiro #optimizinghumanability #cuppingtherapy #cupping #olympics #olympics2016 #softtissue #inflammation #recovery #healing #health #wellness #sportschiropractic #recoveryprocess #bloodflow #southflorida #palmbeachgardens #wellington #decompression

Great video @performanceandwellnesschiro ・・・ Push-Ups are a great movement that strengthens the upper body while allowing for a high degree of serratus anterior development. A strong serratus anterior helps with upper back and shoulder health. The serratus anterior functions to drive scapular upward rotation as well as help restore normal kyphosis in individuals that have a "flat" thoracic spine. If we lock the scapulae in place and engage the serratus anterior, it pulls on the rib cage and gives us a more normal thoracic kyphosis. If you have a curved scapulae sitting on a flat upper back, you lose passive stability at the shoulder. In the wise words of @ericcressey "trying to stabilize the shoulder with a flat thoracic spine is like trying to shoot a cannon from a canoe". @clinicalathlete @gardenscrossfit @hustlehardcrossfit @crossfitpba @crossfitwild @crossfit1401 @crossfitcityplace @hewwelly @hewpbg @thecrossfitsquad #clinicalathlete #performanceandwellnesschiro #optimizinghumanability #pushups #pushup #upperbody #shoulderhealth #strength #strengthandconditioning #rehab #prehab #sportschiropractic #training #sportsrehab #garagegym #garagegymlife #southflorida #wellington #palmbeachgardens

The @4thdownsolutions boys have been hard at work these past couple weeks. I have able to progress them to some advanced and fun plyometric training drills over the course of the training cycle. Here is a glimpse at part of their lower body training session today. There was a box for them to step down on to minimize the risk of injury from dropping from that height, however sometimes training can be unpredictable. @clinicalathlete @oneononekicking @one_on_one_strength @danjlundy #clinicalathlete #performanceandwellnesschiro #optimizinghumanability #4thdownsolutions #kicking #punting #training #kickers #punters #plyometrics #jumps #boxjumps #power #explosive #kickersarepeopletoo #puntersarepeopletoo #oneononekicking #specialisttraining #legday #legs

The benefits of Active Hanging are many. 1) Shoulder/elbow/wrist and spine health via traction and decompression. 2) Reclaiming overhead range of motion. 3) Grip Strength and Grip Endurance. If you cant grip it, you cant manipulate it. 4) It builds a strength in the upper back and a foundation for all pulling movements. We like to vary the implement which adds some variety to hanging. Here we are using @roguefitness #dogbone attachment, which is a favorite of ours. @Regrann from @performanceandwellnesschiro - This version of a Banded Overhead Distraction is a great way to combat stiffness and improve ROM, and soft tissue slide and glide in the shoulder and supporting musculature. Due to the attachments of the Lattisimus Dorsi this movement can be an effective part of a plan to alleviating some lower back pain and discomfort while improving the overhead position. @Regrann from @performanceandwellnesschiro - This variation of a Quadruped Shoulder Rhythmic Stabilization is an effective way to drive rotator cuff activation and thus a great rehab/prehab drill we like to utilize especially with any of our overhead athletes. Keep in mind the true function of rotator cuff is to stabilize the humeral head on the glenoid fossa (keep the golf ball on the tee). With this movement make sure the individual keeps the ball on the wall by continually reaching their arm through the ball. This will help to influence correct motor control of the musculature of the shoulder girdle in the overhead position. @clinicalathlete @ultimafitnesswellington @crossfitwild @crossfitpba @crossfit1401 @crossfitcityplace @crossfitdoa @crossfitliger @gardenscrossfit @thecrossfitsquad @hewwelly @hardexerciseworkspbg #clinicalathlete #performanceandwellnesschiro #optimizinghumanability #shoulders #stability #rehab #prehab #rotatorcuff #crossfit #powerlifting #olympicweightlifting #baseball #Regrann

Plyo-Push-ups are an effective way to build explosive strength in the upper body. These are essentially a box jump for the upper body. Just like the box jump, at a certain point the movement is more of test of shoulder range of motion versus a true test of explosive strength. For this reason we stop increasing the height (and begin to add weight) once the athlete can no longer catch themselves with elbows at 90 degrees or greater. Here we have current @ufindlay kicker @tylerbugeja10 performing some plyo-push-ups as part of his upper body training session during the @4thdownsolutions summer training program. Using @marksmellybell #slingshot in this manner is one of our favorite ways to warm up and prepare all the Gluteal and surrounding hip musculature for a lower body training session. Hip Circle Walking is an effective way to reinforce proper mechanics with all of the Gluteal muscles. Of clinical significance, the gluteus medius functions during activities such as walking and running to dynamically stabilize the pelvis in a neutral position during single leg stance. Weakness of the right gluteus medius will cause the left hip to drop when standing on the right limb. Also, the gluteus medius is an external rotator of the hip when the hip is in a position of flexion. These factors together are likely why dysfunction of this muscle is commonly found in several pathologies, such as iliotibial band, patellofemoral injuries, ACL, and ankle injuries and reason why we spend time reinforcing proper patterning prior to lower body training. @clinicalathlete @ultimafitnesswellington @crossfitpba @crossfitwild @crossfitcityplace @crossfit1401 @gardenscrossfit @thecrossfitsquad @hewpbg @hewwelly #clinicalathlete #performanceandwellnesschiro #optimizinghumanability #lowerbody #training #warmup #prep #rehab #prehab #glutes #gluteburn #gluteactivation #socks #socklife #sockgame #sockgamestrong #america #crossfit #powerlifting #olympicweightlifting #sportsrehab #sportschiropractic #physicaltherapy

Yoke Bar Good Mornings are a great movement that strengthens the posterior chain and challenges the trunk musculature. It's is a loaded hinge pattern that reinforces total body tension and proper loading of the entire posterior chain. The synergistic reinforcement of the lumbar and gluteal musculature is crucial for power development and movement mechanics. This movement is akin to a barbell hip thrust or a kettlebell swing, with the difference is just the loading vector and range of motion. A kettlebell swing, a barbell hip thrust, and a good morning are all hinge patterns, the only difference is the lever action in relation to where the load is placed. The Yoke Bar lengthens the lever from using a traditional barbell and also allows individuals with shoulder pathology to be able to still achieve a training effect. @clinicalathlete @ultimafitnesswellington @crossfitpba @crossfitwild @crossfit1401 @crossfitcityplace @crossfitdoa @gardenscrossfit @thecrossfitsquad @hewwelly @hardexerciseworkspbg #clinicalathlete #performanceandwellnesschiro #optimizinghumanability #goodmorning #goodmornings #posteriorchain #spinalstability #lowback #glutes #hamstrings #rehab #prehab #training #powerlifting #crossfit #olympicweightlifting #yokebar #hiphinge

Med Ball Scoop Tosses are a great way to develop rotational power and teach transfer of force through a stable mid-section. A considerable amount of power is generated through the ground with the back leg. That force is transferred through the hips, into a stable core position, and creates a powerful amount of whip at the upper extremities. If the timing is off, or stability is not maintained through the mid-section, the power of that movement will be greatly diminished. The transfer of force through the hips, or hip shift, is critical for power development in individuals who play rotational sports such as golf, tennis and baseball. @clinicalathlete @ultimafitnesswellington @crossfitwild @crossfitpba @crossfitcityplace @crossfit1401 @crossfitdoa @benospoweralley @hewwelly @hardexerciseworkspbg @thecrossfitsquad @gardenscrossfit @wellingtoncoltsbaseball #clinicalathlete #performanceandwellnesschiro #optimizinghumanability #power #medballtoss #throws #golf #golfswing #tennis #baseball #baseballtraining #tennistraining #golfing #sockgame #sockgamestrong #socklife #training #crossfit #powerlifting #explosivestrength #sportsperformance #sportschiropractic

Bear Crawls are a great trunk stability exercise that simultaneously helps drive scapular upward rotation by putting the lats and scapular downward rotators on slack as the individual reaches overhead. Adding the #hipcircle around the wrists forces posterior rotator cuff activation by forcing you to resist being pulled into internal rotation and horizontal adduction at the shoulder. When performing these make sure to "reach" your hands through the floor and when moving forward to influence optimal scapulothoracic positioning and serratus anterior activation. To perform this movement the ipsilateral (same side) hip and scapula move together to move you across the floor. To increase the difficulty you can hold a 25 lb or 45 lb plate in your hands. All the credit goes to @thompsonfatpad for this gem. He recommends performing these at the end of your training sessions, as when done correctly these are very taxing. @clinicalathlete @ultimafitnesswellington @crossfitpba @crossfitwild @crossfitcityplace @crossfitdoa @gardenscrossfit @thecrossfitsquad @crossfit1401 @hewwelly @hardexerciseworkspbg #clinicalathlete #performanceandwellnesschiro #optimizinghumanability #backcrawl #donniethompson #prehab #rehab #backhealth #backpain #painmanagement #crawling #lowbackpain #crossfit #powerlifting #olympicweightlifting #Regrann

Medicine Ball Bench Throws are a great movement that helps to build explosive strength. We like to utilize these on upper body days to prime our CNS (central nervous system and improve motor unit recruitment prior to our main movement. Make sure to catch the ball with your arms extended and reverse it powerfully right before it reaches your chest. You should use a ball that you can throw at least to the height of your partners face. @clinicalathlete @ultimafitnesswellington @crossfitpba @crossfitwild @crossfitcityplace @crossfit1401 @gardenscrossfit @thecrossfitsquad @hewwelly @hardexerciseworkspbg #clinicalathlete #performanceandwellnesschiro #optimizinghumanability #explosive #strength #powerlifting #training #throws #medball #medicineball #medballthrows #benchpress #powerlifting #crossfit #olympicweightlifting #power #powerful #sockgame #socklife #sockgamestrong

Interesting clinical discussion here regarding the use of the "Olympic" lifts for non-competitive weightlifting at athletes by south Florida ClinicalAthlete @performanceandwellnesschiro ______________________________ #Repost @performanceandwellnesschiro The Olympic lifts are good exercises as they help build to explosive power, however we rarely program Olympic lifts for our athletes (unless olympic weightlifting is their sport) for a number of reasons: 1. It takes too long to learn how to do effectively. An Olympic lift with poor technique isn’t safe or effective. They can take days/weeks/months/years to execute correctly enough to achieve the desired training effect. That is poor return on the investment. There is a good reason why it's stands alone as its own Olympic sport. 2. The Olympic lifts put unnecessary strain on the wrists, elbows, and shoulders. Athletes need to be healthy to play their respective sport. 3. Other exercises are equally or more effective. The Olympic lifts are a weighted triple extension, performing jumps and throws like the one pictured here are a form of weighted triple extension and are an easier and more natural movement to execute than the complex Olympic movements. @clinicalathlete @crossfitpba @crossfitwild @crossfit1401 @crossfitcityplace @crossfitdoa @gardenscrossfit @thecrossfitsquad @hewwelly @hardexerciseworkspbg #clinicalathlete #performanceandwellnesschiro #optimizinghumanability #jumps #throws #medicineball #olympicweightlifting #powerlifting #weightlifting #training #programming #power #strength
