Felt a little stiff today from the last few days of yard work, but we made it work. I had my prep client Deb train with me today. It's always exciting to educate someone on what real intensity is like when training for physique competition. Usually they under-estimate how hard they have to train to really make progress. I posted yesterday about how heavy hip thrusts offer more risk than reward, here is my alternative to the super-heavy approach: use the band. Here's highlights from today... A. Seated leg curls 6x10 (kept adding weight until we couldn't get 10) B. Romanian/Yates DL 4x8 C1. SLDL 3x10 C2. Sumo DL w/ bands 3x10 D1. Goblet squat 2x15 D2. KB swing 2x15 E. Make It Training . I had every intention of filming a full workout routine for everyone today but these triple sets had other ideas for me so I was only able to capture my finishing movement. . Ended the day with some Wide Grip Supinated RDL’s with a focus on slow tempo and a hard isometric contraction of the lats (it was back day today). I never do RDLs right with dumbbells. It feels weird. I need a barbell. The fixed barbells only go up to 60# at this gym. I had a light day today. The heavy straight bar is a lot of set up for low weight. What I learned from this video..I twist the dumbbells in stead of keeping them straight. I don’t think I’m engaging my back correctly either. Hamstring and glute exercises.....important?? . . . The majority of us are very quad dominant. What does that mean? In life we naturally use our quads more than our glutes and hamstrings when doing any sort of movement (standing up, bending down, climbing up stairs, etc) it means that our glutes are hardly ever activated and a lot of us (especially women) have less definition in our hamstrings than in our quads. . . . Here @tesstheakerr is performing just 2 exercises that can help activate those glutes and stretch out and strengthen those hamstrings to start getting your body used to using these muscles rather than just using quads. . . . 1. Romanian deadlifts - imagine someone punching you in the lower stomach and really push your bum back, keep your knees soft but not bent and keep that back nice and straight. Start with a light weight as you will straightaway feel it in your hamstrings and work your way up. . . 2. Resistance band thrusters - these are done before doing a heavy glute exercise such as barbell hip thrusters or sumo squats as they really engage the glutes. A essayer dans vos trainings jambes 🍗, c’est un exercice très fonctionnel et intéressant (si réalisé correctement) pour toutes celles et ceux qui souffrent du dos 🤕 ! La charge que vous utilisez doit être légère au départ, pour bien maitriser votre mouvement, mais vous pouvez réellement charger si votre posture est parfaite toute au long du mouvement 🏋️ ! 1. Effectuez notre séquence de gainage (voir vidéos précédentes), et vissez votre pied d’appui dans le sol 🔄 2. Engagez vos abdominaux 🍫, tirez l’épaule qui porte le poids vers l’arrière et fixer vos scapulas. Votre tête restera en position neutre tout au long du mouvement 🦍 3. Penchez-vous vers l’avant, le genou du pied d’appui légèrement plié (environ 5 à 10°), sans tourner votre bassin d’un côté ou de l’autre (conservez votre bassin parallèle au sol) ↔️ 4. Réalisez un balancier avec votre pied arrière. 💥Romanian Deadlift😍 - If you’re looking to strengthen your entire posterior chain (and trust me, you are) then RDLs should be your go-to exercise👍. The RDL differs from the traditional deadlift in that the legs remain relatively straight as the hips hinge back, placing an incredible amount of tension on the hamstrings and glutes🍑💵 - I like to engrain the technique with a dowel when first teaching the movement, as shown in the first section of the video with my amazing new client @slaterinthecity . Important to note: 1️⃣ The dowel should remain in contact with the back of the head, mid back and sacrum as you push the hips back. This ensures complete spinal alignment, which is 🔑 when properly performing any hinge movement. 2️⃣ Once you feel a strong stretch in the hamstrings, pause there for a moment, then drive your hips through to come back to standing💪 - Once you’ve mastered the technique with a dowel, try a light barbell or dumbbells. It’s imperative that you keep the bar/dumbbells as close to your body as possible by firing up the lats and upper back🔥🔥. 4 Booty exercises that are a bit on the heavier side🤗 there are many high rep/light weight glute isolation exercises like kickbacks out there but it's hard to find some for the backside that are more on the compound movement side and don't involve the quads. So I collected my favourites because compound movements are still so important for muscle growth🏋️ (trying to grow my hams&glutes at the moment, but not my quads anymore) _ 1⃣ Romanian Deadlifts: Natürlich DIE Übung für die Hams, also keine reine Po Isolation, dennoch arbeiten die Glutes hier ordentlich mit, meiner Meinung nach die beste Deadlift Variante, wenn man seine Quads nicht reizen möchte aber dennoch nicht auf die Übung verzichten will😋 *Tipp: Po am Ende der Bewegung kontrahieren und kurz halten um das meiste aus der Übung herauszunehmen 2⃣ Kneeling Squat: Habe ich selber zum ersten Mal ausprobiert. Ist natürlich nicht zu vergleichen mit einer normalen Kniebeuge (ihr seht schon die range-of-motion), allerdings laut Studien die "Squat" Variante mit der niedrigsten Quad Aktivierung und dabei höchsten Glute Aktivierung für meine aktuellen Ziele also optimal und eine Übung die man ab und an mal einbauen kann. 3⃣ Static Lunges: Absolute Lieblings-Übung für den Po. Ausfallschritte sind meiner Meinung nach so eine unterschätzte Übung, immer wenn ich sie an einem Beintag weglasse bekomme ich keinen Po Muskelkater (egal wie viele Hip Thrusts ich dafür mache😉). *Tipp: um so viel wie möglich mit der Hinterseite zu arbeiten (Beinbizeps und Po) drücke ich nur durch die Ferse und ziehe die Zehen sogar nach oben. 4⃣ Hip Thrusts: dürfen hier natürlich nicht fehlen. Hip Thrusts sind die einzige Übung mit nahezu vollständiger Po Isolation bei der ihr gleichzeitig richtig richtig schwer gehen könnt (ich mache so 140kg). *Tipp: auch hier Zehen nach oben und aus der Ferse drücken, Gewicht wenn möglich kurz oben halten (mache die Übung auch manchmal mit 1-2sekunden Pausen oben) #romaniandeadlift #hipthrusts #lunges #bootyworkout #bootyexercises #nellalifts

I’ve teamed up with @coachcappuccino to talk about the “HOW and WHY” of different exercises! 🙌🏼 • This week we are talking about Romanian deadlifts! This is one of my favorite exercises to really target my hamstrings! 👊🏼 • So let’s in get into the WHY you should be performing RDLs! I’m going to lay out my TOP reasons for you! • 1️⃣ This is one the BEST exercises for hypertrophy on leg day! It has the potential to increase not only those hammies, but the glutes and the lower back too! 2️⃣ You will increase overall performance for conventional deadlifting. When you strengthen supporting muscles, your overall strength increases significantly! 3️⃣ You will prevent injury Because RDLs are very form focused you learn to be aware of your body! RDLs require proper hip hinging, proper spine movement/alignment, and overall body stability. 4️⃣ RDLs will engage the glutes more than conventional deadlifts! Because RDLs are not quad dominated the glute muscles come into play a lot more. Incorporating RDLs will help build your glutes significantly! 🍑 • I highly recommend finding a balance between strength and hypertrophy focused exercises. That balance will be different for different people, it depends on what your goals are. For me, I do two leg sessions per week, one strength and one hypertrophy! I started with 15 mins skipping, foam rolled tension from quads then finished my warm up with 6 rounds of this drill. This drill incorporates coordination & plyometrics. I threw the box jumps into this warmup as plyometrics can help prepare the Central nervous system prior to squatting and deadlifting. STRAIGHT LEG /STIFF LEG/DEADLIFT 😘 Please ignore the typo in this video lol 😝so annoying. It’s supposed to be neutral spine* Remember to keep a Neutral spine! . This is one of my favourite moves. I learned how to straight/stiff leg deadlift before I could even squat or regular deadlift. . This exercise is incredible for strengthening your whole posterior chain - upper back lower back, glutes and amazing for the hammies! The main and most obvious difference between this deadlift and a conventional deadlift is that you’re keeping your legs relatively straight during the move, you are also specifically targeting hip flexion and extension, and increasing hamstring range of motion. You do not need to stretch all the way down to the floor causing strain on your lower back, just below the knee is sufficient for most people in order to get that full stretch of the hamstring. Keep your feet flat on the ground while driving weight through your heels. . Make sure you’re keeping your core tight and engaged throughout the entirety of this exercise. . In this video I am using a slightly wider grip which engages my lats but hands on the bar just outside of your thighs is a great place to start grip wise. . Hope this helps!
