More shoulder stuff with blocks.... Letting them rest lightly on your palms (or ideally you could use a light weight or cork blocks for a bit of resistance). Moving the arms over head and back down through internal and external rotation... block are a great way for beginner students, especially to get an understanding of certain movements with out overloading them with too much antomacial reference. The second action is working on building strength through external rotation. Hold the blocks like you are serving something from a tray (I've dropped what's on mine for sure...so try and keep elbows and wrists inline). Keep shoulder blades down and as you pull the thumb side of your hand back, keep elbows in by side ribs, this can get really spicy, really quickly... Repeat 1000 times 🤣. We put a lot of emphasis tonight in level 3 on correct shoulder alignment and the need for strengthening external rotation for stability in a lot of yoga poses. This drill has featured in all classes this week.... You can still catch Level 1 tomorrow at 8.00pm or Level 3 Thursday at 6.30pm or my shoulder focused workshop on the 18th of November. WALL DRILL To develop your skill in the tuck, try this wall drill. First you’ll need to find the right distance away from the wall depending on your strength and flexibility. The closer the hands are to the wall, the harder the skill becomes. As you slide the shins down, suck the lower belly in and resist the shoulders planching forwards, and this is where your shoulder strength comes into play. This exercise will develop your ability to compress too. Walls drills are v useful for technique without being challenged by the balance.

Shoulder workout! Get it, babes!! 💪🏻 1. Barbell shoulder press x10 2. Lateral dumbbell fly x10 3. Front dumbbell fly w/rotation x10 4. Front dumbbell fly x10 5. Dumbbell shoulder press x10 6. Alternating front fly x10 FIVE SETS 👏🏻 Tracking update: over the weekend, I didn’t track my calories/macros because tbh, I forgot. And then it was too late and I didn’t want to know how much I had eaten lol 😂 🌿 When you’re trying to exist in a calorie deficit to lose body fat, one day won’t hurt you. But when that one day turns into several days, then a week, then a month... you’re not going to reach your goals and you might even gain weight rather than lose it. ❤️ This week, I’m grateful for the ability to track what I eat and I’m thankful for a new day. No matter how you mess up with your eating habits, you can start over the next day! 👍🏻 There’s a learning curve with any new habit, and the lesson I learned yesterday was that tracking is what makes the difference for me. When I know how much I have left in my calorie budget, I won’t give up. If I haven’t been tracking, I’m much more likely to say “screw it” and eat my feelings 😬🤪 🌵 Happy Monday, babes!! 💕💕💕

💥Palpation forms the cornerstone of the assessment for the purposes of arriving at a sound manual musculoskeletal (MSK) diagnosis and that treatment of MSK conditions can be optimally directed. . “The cortical homunculus.  A representation based on the density of sensory innervation of the area rather than the total surface area.  Things in the body that are bigger are not represented more in our sensory cortex.  You will find that there is 100x more sensory cortical representation for our hands/fingers than any other area in the body.  Which tells us that our hands are there for a sensory exploration tool.  The better off you can get at finding tissue, assessing tissue, the neuronal excitation or the mapping you have in your sensory cortex, will become more refined.”@dmchivers @functionalrangerelease . “Orthopedic testing does well at teasing out Macro Tissue Injury (overt muscle tears, osseous fractures, etc.) but very poorly at assessing and diagnosing Micro Tissue Injury or mechanical tension (manual therapists see most often). Ortho exams limit the ability to distinguish a manual medical diagnoses and therefore cannot select the appropriate treatment for MSK conditions” @drandreospina . “We are also taught to look to imaging in order to try to arrive at a diagnosis.  Again, well at assessing Macro Level Injury, vs. Micro.  Ex: patient w/ shoulder complaint sent for diagnostic ultrasound or MRI, the results come back normal.  Its not that the patient is faking the shoulder pain, it’s that there is Micro Level Injury undetected.  We fall into the same issues with musculoskeletal research.” . 💢Because of this, manual practitioners are often left with their hands and knowledge of anatomical structure to determine the cause of patient’s symptoms.  The only way to truly differentiate the symptomatic tissue lies in the manual practitioners ability to specifically palpate the tissues. . 1️⃣The first diagram represents the focus in particular areas of study typically seen in manual medical education.  Palpation is usually just an afterthought and is never really taught as a true art of trying to enhance ones ability to palpate... . The most important thing about them though is their role in overall shoulder health and injury prevention. . That’s right – they might not be showy, but they’re worth their weight in gold. . In addition to the structural and health benefits of face pulls, they are also a great exercise for the posterior, (rear) deltoids (and upper back to a degree). . The rear deltoids don’t always get as much love as they should by the average gym goer, so in addition to keeping your shoulders healthy when you’re working up to some new bench PBs, they also add to your physique, which is never a bad thing. . Constant, heavy benching can potentially play havoc with your shoulders over the long term if you’re not regularly strengthening your scapular retractors – these are the muscles you use when your shoulders move backwards. . I have worked mainly on stability.. creating breaks...emphasizing core, glute/posterior leg, and flexion/retraction work — I learned to blow (exhale/passive) my ribs into my SITZ (mechanical) and I have learned to retract my neck…which all has opened spaced for progressed extension — Notice how my head is no longer on the floor… because my ribs no longer flare which will allow me to create space in my upper back #falsemobility — ▪bottom rib stability / no rib flare ▪increased upper back mobility ▪deeper hip flexion ▪breathe control / serratus anterior ▪increased shoulder mobility - Tag you workout buddy! This is one of my favorite stretches for opening up my shoulders and chest. This has really improved my flexibility and form. Start with your arms as wide as needed and slowly bring them closer over time. During this stretch I focus on bringing my shoulder blades together. #Repost @jjweeks_pilates ・・・ Please read the full caption for your own safety 💥💥 ( avoid this exercise if you have ANY neck problems or tight hamstrings which may place too much pull on the neck) ⚠️ It is important to know that the video speed is up slightly and should be executed with extreme caution and you should have a good understanding of functional movement and oppositions ⚠️.. 1️⃣the neck should always be in perfect alignment with the rest of the spine, 2️⃣moves with the rest of the spine, 3️⃣with abdominals engaged ☑️If you keep close watch on my front bottom rib cage, there is always movement downward through the activation of my abdominals to encourage thoracic flexion as the head lifts (As the saying goes : I am NOT BREAKING THE BUD OFF THE STEM!!!)🥀 ⚠️The movement is gentle, controlled and mindful with a interplay of oppositions ↔️⚠️ Stay aware of AVOIDING tension in the neck at all times. The head MELTS into the band throughout, which I have knotted to get the correct length according to my hamstring flexibility. Allow a delicious sensation of lengthening in the hamstrings, with the weight of the head back into the strap (not a pull), reaching the base of the skull away from the shoulders to create a gentle traction. My core muscles are activated throughout to assist the integrity of the principle of opposition and AVOID EXCESSIVE PULL on the neck. The Movement of the foot in dorsi/plantar flexion increases the stretch in the hamstrings and adds a GENTLE lengthening and traction through the cervical spine. ▫️When moving the leg back, make sure to assist with strong abdominals to create more the thoracic flexion and mobilization!!! We are kicking it off with a solid forearm plank. 🍂 Forearm plank is a great shoulder strengthener which we’re gonna need for our upcoming challenge days. Start in plank and then lower onto your forearms. * Make sure the elbows are underneath the shoulders. I don’t care what you do what your hands: keep the palms flat, clasp them, shoot a bird, whatever dude, live your life. * Press the floor away with your forearms and try not to “dump” iinto your shoulders or low back. Think about lifting through the front of the body. * You can modify by dropping the knees. Which is pretty self explanatory but you can Swipe left for video. .
