An expression of shoulder mobility and strength that seemed almost insurmountable not that long ago. Reversing the hanging shoulder dislocate is much tougher than lowering down through it. I thought I was a ways off from it, but decided to try it at the climbing gym the other day and was pleasantly surprised to find out it was very doable. I’m thinking that the concentration of mace work I’ve been adding into my training for the last few months has definitely helped. Shoulder Rehab⁉️ OVERHEAD SQUATS!💯 . 🏋️‍♂️I’ve used overhead variations for a long time to help rehab shoulder injuries (including my own). Once proper range of motion is achieved in PT, it’s best to start with overhead squats with a light stick. Place the stick in your head with elbows at 90*. Lock out and squat down. 🥅THE GOAL here is to keep the stick above your ears as you lower into a squat. This may stretch your shoulders, T spine, hips and/or ankles depending I. Where you’re tight. If the stick falls forward you know you have work to do. I’ll use these in warmups to help increase active ROM. . ⁉️WHAT NEXT? Once you can do this easily move on to using weighted bars. I always preach that the goal isn’t for them to lift heavy overhead but to be stable through the entire squat. These are great for strength but can also limit mobility and ROM. . 🏊🏼‍♂️You may notice my shoulders are a work progress from years improper form and abuse from playing football. . 🤽🏼‍♂️I finished my workout with this Superset to work on strengthening my shoulder girdle to ultimately add stability. . 📋I did each exercise back to back for 4 sets of 5. . 🧘🏼‍♂️Keep the core engaged to prevent the back from arching. . 🚣🏼‍♀️Work on keeping the shoulder blades down to prevent your traps from compensating for the weak aspects of the shoulder. . 🏂While up against the wall, keep the back of your head, your shoulder blades, and your arms flat against the wall as you press up. Anniversary climb. It's my 10th climb of a lifetime😊😊 so therefore I decided to choose a route that seems achievable but be slightly challenging and do it until I get it. That is after all the practise technical work given by @captaincutloose is done that is. . . Problem is that yellow route offered more challenge than expected and it took me an hour and nearly 20 tries. My forearms were on fire and shaking,which you thankfully dont see in this slightly speed up video. How much grace there is? Not much. I tried to practise everything learned on Sunday but really the last try was done with sore forearms and anger and o decided to just go for it and get it signed off! There was a lot of trying, thinking, re-thinking, trying but it ended up being just a pure raw attempt. So if any tips how to get there without all energy used, please let me know your ideas. . . . Looking for new ways to improve handstand push-ups (HSPU). ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ I heard of a study that said landmine presses added an average of 13.2 lbs to an athletes push press (11.1%increase). Compared to the push press which on average added 1.4lbs to an athletes push press (1.1% increase). ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Full HSPU’S are difficult to perform and can be intimidating when you first start, even regressed versions are challenging, which can put you off. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Exercises like the landmine press are important for building strength in the shoulders. Although strength isn’t the only requirement its an important one. You need strength that carries over to a HSPU, something that works your abs, lower back, triceps, chest and delts. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ The landmine press puts your body into a position similar to a HSPU, when overhead you’re squeezing your glutes and abs as you lean into the bar, when lowering the weight you shift the weight from above your head to in front of you whilst maintaining a strong position. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Shoulder stability and balance is also important, the second exercise helps with this. In the video I do a single set of Hex Press at each angle, although most the time I try 2-3 sets for each. • This is an awesome way to make sure you’re hitting every part of your chest. • Progress the weight with each set or at least each angle. It seems easy to do since you’re essentially moving from Military Press to Flat Bench Press, but let me tell ya this gets brutal. • I used this workout scheme for dumbbell presses 2 sets of 8-12 reps at each angle as well. Let’s talk about my hands 🤙🏼 ⠀ Whenever I share a pincha pic I am always asked about my grip so with this challenge on the go, I’ve had a steady stream of curiosity 😂 ⠀ I didn’t learn to Pincha this way. I learnt the more traditional way with palms flat and forearms {attempting to stay} parallel. I can’t remember what my turning point was but I switched to a closed grip & haven’t looked back since. I included a little close up from the side so you can see what I’m doing but here’s what my limited knowledge knows... ⠀ With palms flat you have more surface area to balance on & the ability to use all 10 fingers as ‘brakes’ to help you find & keep your balance. BUT your shoulders have gone through a degree of internal rotation in order to pronate (turn down) the palms & therefore are in a slightly weaker position. This rotation is also what causes the elbows to splay out which loses the stability & strength in the shoulders. I’m afraid my anatomy knowledge doesn’t extend far enough to know exactly what makes it harder but I DO know that when your palms are less pronated & facing each other, the shoulder girdle is more stable. ⠀ Yes, the balance is technically harder & when I first tried it out it was the most unstable thing ever 😂 but it gave me the ability to push out of the shoulders more - to be stronger in my upper body, & if there’s one thing that makes pincha easier, it’s being strong 💪🏼 ⠀ These days I only ever practice with palms flat for novelty value to see if I can still do it. But that’s just my personal preference. I know many badass pincha yogis who are religious palm flat people. So I guess my message is to find what works for you. There are pros & cons for both so it depends on what your strengths/weaknesses are as to what will help you more. But change is never easy so if you’re comfortable in a palms flat pincha don’t expect to instantly be just as good with palms together. ⠀ Are you a palms flat or together kinda person? Jag fick börja om, hängde inte alls till en början, började hänga lite efter ett tag, fortsatte med skulderbladsstyrka och la tillslut till pull ups. Den 3/9 la ja upp en video där jag gjorde 2 pull ups och var lycklig över att de inte gjorde ont, i slutet på september kunde jag börja kippa igen🎉 Efter det har jag fortsatt arbeta med fokus på att få en stark rygg. . I lördagens tävling, WOD 1 skulle 36 pull ups avverkas mellan 63 KB-swingar. Man fick använda band som hjälpmedel om man ville. Övervägde alternativet en stund, men visste redan innan att nä, jag skiter i om jag får en sämre tid, pull upsen ska göras utan band💪🏻 Helt FÄRDIG var jag efteråt, har aldrig varit så SLUT! Om jag var stolt över mig själv? 🦄Fair warning —> your shoulders are gonna be screaming after this. The first 10-12 reps don’t seem bad but 15-20+ catch on fire and it’s gonna burn. In a good way. Like a “this hurts so good and I kinda sorta like it,” kinda way. - Anyhoodle. - ☕️Band Pull Aparts are one of the few exercises you should do. Every day. Before your workout. During your workout. After your workout. - 🦄There’s no wrong time to do them. Because they’re low-load and not overly stressful. But at the same time they strengthen the muggles outa your upper back muscles and rear delts (back of your shoulders) in a way that can get rid of shoulder pain & prevent impingement. - 🦄TAKE HOME UNICORN POINTS TO REMEMBER🦄 - ❌Don’t reach with your neck like the first example. Many people subconsciously reach with their neck so they don’t have to pull as much with their back and rear delts. No good. If you’re reaching with your neck you’re missing all the benefits of the drill. - ❌Keep your elbows nearly straight (not fully locked out but close) and don’t let your elbows come in toward your body like the second example. Keep your hands, elbows and shoulders in one line throughout the whole movement. And pull the band all the way to your chest. - ❌Don’t do what I’m doing in the third example. I don’t know what to call it other than I look like an uncoordinated hippogriff. Don’t do that. - ❌Don’t arch your lower back like I did in the fourth example. Just like some people reach with their neck, others arch their lower back so they don’t have to use a full range of motion with their shoulders. Keep your chest tall, and braced (remember the dookey?), and don’t arch your lower back. - ❌See in the fifth example my shoulders raise up towards my ears? No good. When you do that you end up using too much upper trap and not enough rear delts/upper back. Keep your shoulders down/away from your ears throughout the whole movement. - ✅Grab the band slightly wider than shoulder width apart, abs braced, chest tall, not arching your lower back. Shoulders down/away from your ears. Elbows nearly locked. Hands, elbows, shoulders in one line. Pull all the way to your chest. And repeat for sets of 12-30 reps. Смотреть полностью

When you start out with calisthenics you suddenly realize that you are no longer constantly flexing your joints when carrying out movement but are asked to lock out and keep arms straight. In usual weight training you are spending lots of time in flexion hence why people do pull ups starting with slightly bent arms (it's easier than deadhang😉😉). By increasing the joint angle exercise suddenly gets lot harder and develops also whole body tension. Many more muscles are usually also involved. . . Developing your straight arm strength will and is crucial for calisthenics skills but also if you want to get your deadlift numbers up for example- it massively increases your strength base. Also you will get some damn strong ligaments and tendons and decrease the change for injury. . . Worth it. Calisthenics or not. . . Here are two examples: easier + harder ×2. . .
