Heddal stave church
"Sal veit ek standa
þar skulu dyggvar
ok um aldrdaga
ynðis njóta." .
"In the seventh of heavens there is a hall, more beautiful than others, and more radiant than the sun. It's name is Gimlé. It shall remain, when both heaven and earth is no more, and in it the good and just of the people shall live for all eternity. Thus reads the prophecy of the Vólva."
The hall described in Gylfaginning could easily be Heddal Stavechurch, for its beauty is unmatched by any other building I have ever laid my eyes upon. It is the largest Stavechurch we have in Norway, but while it is old, it is not the oldest. The people of Heddal have been taking care of it for eight hundred years, and it's beauty still remains to this day.
Both quotes are from Gylfaginning, the first one is the original in old norse, and the second is my translation from old Norwegian to English.
