Strength in Length 💪🏼 Expansion through joints is the main driver of power in functional patterns and sports. Holding oneself static in a position of expansion also creates strength and control in this range, stabilising the joints at more extreme ranges. This conditions and helps protects the joints/muscles from tearing or ripping during power output. #DownwardsDog position is a great example of a long extended position for the spine, shoulders and hamstrings/calves. However, when performed on the floor it is mainly a passive posture. Performing #yoga postures in suspension against gravity creates extra strain on the body making the position Active, adding a whole range of new benefits to the exercise. #bodyweightgurus @bodyweightgurus

And just like the TGU, slowing it down exposes skeletons in your compensation closet. . ✅ Remember that it’s a plank first (practice neutral spine - see me lift my head?). ✅ From the top and all the way thru, protracting your scapula (spreading your shoulder blade) is more about resisting passive retraction (where the torso falls & hangs below shoulders and humeral heads dump forward - together these exacerbate scapula winging, where blades come off of the ribs). ✅ Slow helps to figure out which elevator floor stops you might be missing strength & motor control wise...hello blind spots! Develop strength at the top, bottom and across the range when you play with isometric pitstops on way down and back up. ✅ 100 shitty push-ups makes you good at shitty push-ups...so not impressed by that (plus you’ll be grinding your rotator cuff like a cheese grater). Rather do one good (as best as you can) slow push-up, working to improve it before adding more. ✅ Be a student of your body without judgement...be curious of what sort of strategies your brain may have hiding and be willing to expose them. ✅ Accept that YOUR body may need modifications based on your movement & loading history...but find appropriate mods that honor your level AND biomechanics (not just making the move easier). #kultfitness #strongfirst #strongfirstbodyweight #strengthyoga #plank #pushup #training #fitmom #coretraining #strength #stability #motorcontrol - #regrann

I first met @athleticfox a few years back when I was presenting my approach to #yoga in #australia and an @fmastrengthofficial conference. I had the daunting task to teach yoga to some pretty big names in #strengthandconditioning whose idea of yoga was skeptical. They were pleasantly surprised I understood their language and taught them yoga without speaking yoga; we laughed, we fell over and we felt calm and relaxed for the upcoming day of lectures. They know how ti #meditate and #focus they are masters at it. Just needed to shift the focus to #calm, #rejuvenation instead of beating the crap out of their weights. I did a post last week on this exercise and a video was requested. There will two videos one for one-on-one and in a class. With help of @ironform_athletes We can show you how great corrective exercise is and the powerful effects it has to help strengthen not just the central core but peripheral core and the arms. # This pose/exercise is generally called Bird Dog in most of yoga, physical therapy world. Which is unusual a lot of times the same move can have 7 different names LOL! This exercise I learned while attending the CHEK Institute and I mainly know it as Horse Stance Horizontal. We use a series of progressive movements to help strengthen the collective core and get people out of back pain. # This is an amazing exercise! When I’m personal training I use a dowel rod to help with the intricacies of this movement. In a yoga class this is far more difficult to achieve, and you must move fast if you are going to correct everyone. # Lots of my clients and anyone coming into the studio have any type of spinal dysfunctional happening that require different protocols. The beauty of this exercise is it is across the board helpful in getting you out of pain but also helps corrects posture and teaches you to use your collective core while you move your limbs. # We use the dowel rod to help with posture and feedback. # Horse stance Horizontal is a progression from horse stance vertical which is difficult to show. Typical protocol is holding 10 seconds per side; up to 10 reps each side. I do variations in my yoga classes that are just as challenging and produces amazing results. You want more info message me!

The beauty of this exercise is it is across the board helpful in getting you out of pain but also helps corrects posture and teaches you to use your collective core while you move your limbs. # What you don’t see here is that she must maintain her spinal curves that are meant for her given what is going; she must also be able to extend her limbs and bring them back to the original start position and switch without the stick falling or even rotating to one side or the other. Those are all indicators that there is something off and she must correct what is happening if she feels it. If not, then I correct her. # She is about ready to progress to the next level. She can hold 10 seconds for each side and doing up to 10 reps per side! By the way that is very impressive!!! I do variations in my yoga classes that are just as challenging and produces amazing results. You want more info message me!

Sunday is the perfect day to take a moment and reflect on this past week. Taylor can help at noon by taking you through a mindful, meditative flow. # Learning and growing can happen in so many different ways, but "there are some kinds of growth that come to us only if we are willing to stop, pause, and allow the lesson to catch up to us." Many people don’t take the time to appreciate their accomplishments before mindlessly moving to the next and feel discombobulated. # Take what you've learned this week and truly reflect on it. What you did well and then how would you improve for the coming week. # I try to do this at the end of each day. Since I began doing this, I've noticed a lot more value and wisdom that I've picked up throughout the day that I otherwise would have glanced right over. # It was hard for me to sit with just my thoughts at first, but it gets easier with practice. # Take 20-30 minutes to sit quietly and write it out to reflect on this past week- you may be surprised what you find out. :-) # ​Have a Wonderful Sunday!

One year ago today a massive shift happened to me, the studio and anyone involved. I could not believe my eyes as the sound I heard from outside was not the train at all in was a car with someone on the gas pedal. The sound was very strange and why I thought it must have been the train. I even thought to myself "what on earth is wrong with the train?" I usually go to that window when I want to see what is happening. I was across just a few feet. I decided not to b/c I was convinced it was the train and put my head back down as I was getting ready for a class that was about to start in 30 minutes at noontime. To my surprise this sound was coming into my studio. It was a car!! WTH!! I thought the car would have stopped in the entry way but it kept going. The young woman behind the wheel is screaming, "my brakes didn't work!! my brakes didn't work!!" I'm heading over to her to see if she is ok, my phone in hand calling 911. I get her out of the studio and look quickly to see if anyone else was hurt as I hear sirens in the back ground growing louder. I head back inside to get pictures so I can post to cancel classes. I call my landlord. I stand in front of my studio very still as I watch the fireman assessing the situation. I can see the policeman by my mailbox looking at my brochures b/c I can see they are trying to find me. But I am frozen as I feel I'm watching from another place. Tracie who lives a few doors down puts her arms around me. My arms folded in front of me. The young woman hysterically crying out to me that she is sorry. I know she is. I simply say I'm glad you're ok and I would then turn from her. People keep coming up to me asking me questions and can't believe how calm I am. I simply appeared calm. I was a wreck (pardon the pun) inside. A reporter came up to me ask me questions. There was a kids event happening at Artworks. I'm so glad the kids were not hurt. Continued in first comment
