Some of the most under-utilized and weakest muscles in today's working world are those if the thoracic spine, specifically the rhomboids, lower traps. This is brutal on #posture as well as leads to poor #scapular control and with that, weaker pressing strength and sometimes some sore shoulders from poor movement patterns. I like to use these paused batwings to not only activate these deeper muscles of the t-spine, but to emphasis "pulling" the weight during pressing exercises, engraving a smoother pattern and bigger weights. @commodore_awesome is doing some with a 3-4 count "squeeze at the peak contraction, and her #benchpress showed it later in the workout! I like to go 1-2 sets either for higher reps or for paused sets. Give it a whirl and let me know what you think. This is one of my go-to lat #activation exercises as well as body positioning and "feel out" starting movements for the complete pullup. This teaches proper start position of the scapula/shoulder complex as well as anterior core (clint is still trying to find optimal position here). By "screwing in", this emphasises external rotation through the humerus as developing and keeping tension throughout the loading/deloading of force. Use this as a pre #movement before #upperbody work or as a part of a general #shoulderhealth series. The Smith machine or #trx make for easy height adjustments. @mandysim_ demonstrates the importance of creating arch and proper foot mechanics. With this case of ankle eversion, notice the angle at the Achilles on the left. This not only adds extra shearing force across the tendon increasing risk of injury, but the poor joint angle decreases force transfer = less power output and muscle contraction. Not good for any goal. Pay attention to those feet! This gives a similar stimlus to a full pullup, while taking away some of the weight to promote success of the rep, adding volume without sacrificing form and to 'groove the pattern" of proper tension and vertical pulling mechanics. Defiantly prefer this method over the assisted pullup machines, which puts the lifter in a disadvantageous position to progress to a full range pullup. Josie with a massive 5 rep this afternoon on the trap bar deadlift @tonewillistower. She made pulling over her bodyweight look smooth and was very confident doing it. I really like to pair a #core movement with a compound squat or pull. Today we paired the #trapbardeadlift with a dumbbell #sideplank while emphasising big diaphramic #breathing. I feel that this aids in #bracing and overall stability increase each assending set. This guy is a straight #beast in the making. When I met @kevinabretcher we went over some starting points. He had no solid idea of where he was but was tired of spinning his tires with no progress. After 7 weeks of zeroing in on #formandfunction, proper #breathing and bracing and logging our workouts, he pops a clean 2 rep #benchpress today for a lifetime record. This is what training is all about. Set a goal, keep it simple, log your workouts and #progress in some way each week. This is only one example of the gains this guy is making and I'm very proud of him. Here is a way to really increase intensity on the single leg glute bridge. By putting the foot on the foam roller, it not only adds challenge to the frontal plane, but increases abdominal #tension and reinforces perfect form to complete each rep. I prefer to us it as an activator before #deadlift work or as part of a lower body circuit to finish off the hamstrings and #booty🍑. Quick glance at the amazing "fitness center" at our hotel as we travel south for the holiday. As you can see, not a ton to work with, but there are #dumbells and plenty of floor space! Here is what I got in. Floor warm-up (shin boxes, dead bugs, side plank, glute bridges, shoulder CARs and side lying windmills) Super set 1- Pushups 10 reps Dumbbell shrugs 10 reps Single leg glute bridge 8/leg Dumbbell row 10 reps 4x Superset #2 Bird dog on bench (6/side) Single leg RDL 8/leg Side plank w/db in top arm 20sec/side Renegade row 6/side 4x Finished with 10 min on the elliptical. Nothing special. Hit a quality warmup and all of my prime #movementpatterns and felt good leaving. Now time for some powdered eggs and toast at the "free" breakfast. Safe travels everyone!

Norma displaying a huge #progression in her breathing work. This is some serious stability and is not easy, I promise you. Over the last 4 months, we have hammered down on breathing, #core stability and positioning in multiple ROMs and creating better tension throughout each rep and set. This movement really pushes stability of the shoulder through the entire movement path and can be great used as a stand alone movement, a corrective or even as a super-set (I like to pair it with a #squat or #hinge pattern). After some serious #softtissue work in the #warmup to get some lost #mobility back, we moved into a tough total body circuit. A1- Med Ball Slams 3x10 B1- Goblet squat (not shown) 10 B2- DB Neutral Grip Press (not shown) 10 B3- DB single arm row 10/arm B4- Plank 30sec B5- #kettlebell deadlift 15 reps 3 rounds It's only been a couple weeks and he has really made some great strides. Christian just started with #trainingbytaylor today. He has a goal of getting 65 pushups in 1 min. He got a little "sloppy" 31 and was #gassed. 2017 is all about taking a step back, addressing weaknesses and rebuiding for me. So I'm stuck between kneeling ab wheel-outs and standing. By adding a band to assist at the highest resistance point, this allows me to complete the movement and begin to adapt to the full movement, safely. I will progress to a smaller band and finally, a full standing wheel-out for reps, hopefully. Larry update! When @lawrencemlevine and I started working together around 6 months ago, he had a very specific goal of deadlifting 300lbs (he is 63 years old btw).
