Hell of a way to cap off my first 3 week block of #deadlift today. . . Top set was a beltless 450lbs for as many as I could muster, and 10 was the number, which I'm happy with. Still working on building better tension and positioning. . . I have been pulling all of my heavy pulls strictly #sumodeadlift for the last couple months and it's really starting to come together. Pulling from the floor every 9-10 days and being less strict with my programming percentages, and the weights are climbing. Gonna stick with it. . . Have been seeing these Hollow body landmine presses circulating through the IG feed, so I decided to throw my hat in the ring and give them a whirl. . . This not only is a killer #corecontrol drill, from a rotary and flexion/extension aspect, but emphasises serreatus and scapula synergy, hip mobility and control as well as one heck of a taxing pressing variation. . . Getting in some #bigboycardio on the back end of a lower body session today. 3-2-1 ladders of mixed weight complexes for 3 total sets for time with our @kettlebellkings bells (so smooth). Lighter bells - double #swing double clean, front rack step back lunges Heavier bells - Double clean, squat and Overhead press Ab wheelouts (not shown) 10 reps Knocked all 3 ladders down on both sets of bells and the wheelouts in just over 12 min. Today is #fathersday and I couldn't be any more proud to have these two amazing men in my life. To my right, the man that raised me, taught me hard work, consistency, dreaming big are what life is all about (pillars of who I am to this day) and is always the guy i go to when I have any questions or just need to talk. Had a solid #benchpress focused session this morning. Powered by my @mbslingshot I built up to a couple heavy doubles at 275. My workout today - Med ball wall work - kneeling chest throws/rotary throws W/band pull Sparta Sling shot bench doubles -5x Timed (40 sec) incline Db bench press W/ timed (40 sec) lat pulldown 3x Lateral raises (15) w/face pulls (20) x3 Finished with some #farmerswalks and core flexion work. These are a great movement not only for rehabilitation and overall health of the knee, but in "cleaning up" knee tracking and overall position in squatting movements. For an assistance movement, start with a controllable band thickness and 2 sets of a higher rep range (15-25). I have been in the "gym game" for nearly 14 years. Attending countless workshops, seminars, clinics and summits both online and in person. I have watched a lot of "cool" systems come down the pipeline and continue just that...down the pipeline. Long story short, I'm a little hard to impress or at least "win over" when it comes to what to implement into my training programs. Then I attending FRC this weekend. Money was well spent attending the #frc certification clinic. @drandreospina really has developed one hell of a #system that EVERY health practitioner would benefit from adding too thier current programs/treatments. Joints are incredibly important and often overlooked in the ever pursuit of the next "cool movement". Excited to be part of the #frc2018 group and community of practitioners, This will surely be integrated into all programming moving forward. Thank you @chicagosportsinstitute for hosting a great event and providing some legit snacks as well!

This morning we closed the week with some #occlusion (also known as blood flow restriction or BFR) dumbbell curls. I'm a fan of this training approach for arms. It allow for massive increases in volume, without taxing the joints, as only 20-40% of max is used for extremely high reps. Wraps should be applied not to full tightness and not worn for more than a few min. I really like the #hammerstrength chest supported row machine. Using it to teach and reinforce #scapular musculature strength and control, as well as reducing anterior glide of the humerus, making this one heck of an effective #backtraining movement. Josie had already smoked her hip/core stabilizers with some heavy #trapbardeadlift and #hipthrusts so this really fit the bill to polish off that posterior chain. If you struggle with not feeling dumbbell rows or shoulder stability, try these out. I like to start with the isometric hold (right) and progress to the full row as shoulder control is established. Quit grinding those joints and get the most out of those rows! Try 2 sets of slightly overloaded holds for 20-40 sec followed by 3-5 sets of full range rows. Today has been an incredible day. I have been utilizing the short #foamroller against the wall to "block the bad movement" i got from the creator of #basementofchampions @dsomerset1 This helps reduce compensation of hip rotation commonly done when performing the #birddog exercise. It's not about how far you can reach in general, it's about how extension is achieved WITH CONTROL and WITHOUT rotation. I usually cue "imagine I have my cup of #coffee on your back...don't spill my coffee." Andrew...i would not only trust you with my coffee, I would even place a #whiskeyneat on that controlled spine! This is a #core activation circuit my client, Jim knocked down at @tonewillistower today. We started with some foundational #bellybreathing from the supine position, transferred to some #crawling patterns in the prone position, finally building into some #loadedcarries and power rows using the #sandbag and #trx to get the nerves firing and blood pumping. A great way to really increase overall training #volume without sacrificing strength is to utilize density sets. @christina3marie is in the middle of such a set with some #touchandgo block pulls and Db push presses. This set is a 5 min set, with both movements at 4-6 reps each (she bangs out 6 each here) for as many rounds in the allotted time limit, thus increasing the "density" of total work being done. Then increase weight by 2.5-5% and repeat, with the goal of beating the previous sets total reps. Something about racing the clock that makes pushing those extra reps doable. This is great as a stand alone focus or including in a strength block as a way to add some #hypertrophy stimuli without taking to much time. One of @mandysim_ primary goals is to blow up her #glutes and overall whole #posterierchain in preparation for her next #bikini competition. We literally do some sort of #hipthrust each and every workout, as I feel frequency is key in #hypertrophy training. Here I'm adding some needed resistance to the single leg, foot elevated hip thrust. The band not only adds some #progessive concentric load on the extension, But emphasises lat activation and #anteriorcore tension and #stability. Overall, one heck of a stimulus. We did 4x of 12-15 reps per leg and supersetted with some pullups for some contrast. Give it a try and let me know what you think. I have been messing around with this band resisted plank variation for some of my clients. I feel that with the overhead loading point, this forces the lats to very activated, creates a stable, locked in scapula and with that, t-spine and #torque through the shoulder complex. This creates some awesome static control, better ability to keep the ribs down and a great response for the hips to follow in line and restrict anterior tilt and better ability to squeeze the glutes and lock in the lower body. Basically, helping create some often much needed core #tension and one hell of a good looking #plank at the end of the day. @christina3marie demonstrating that to the point here. Some of the most under-utilized and weakest muscles in today's working world are those if the thoracic spine, specifically the rhomboids, lower traps. This is brutal on #posture as well as leads to poor #scapular control and with that, weaker pressing strength and sometimes some sore shoulders from poor movement patterns. I like to use these paused batwings to not only activate these deeper muscles of the t-spine, but to emphasis "pulling" the weight during pressing exercises, engraving a smoother pattern and bigger weights. @commodore_awesome is doing some with a 3-4 count "squeeze at the peak contraction, and her #benchpress showed it later in the workout! I like to go 1-2 sets either for higher reps or for paused sets. Give it a whirl and let me know what you think. This is one of my go-to lat #activation exercises as well as body positioning and "feel out" starting movements for the complete pullup. This teaches proper start position of the scapula/shoulder complex as well as anterior core (clint is still trying to find optimal position here). By "screwing in", this emphasises external rotation through the humerus as developing and keeping tension throughout the loading/deloading of force. Use this as a pre #movement before #upperbody work or as a part of a general #shoulderhealth series. The Smith machine or #trx make for easy height adjustments. @mandysim_ demonstrates the importance of creating arch and proper foot mechanics. With this case of ankle eversion, notice the angle at the Achilles on the left. This not only adds extra shearing force across the tendon increasing risk of injury, but the poor joint angle decreases force transfer = less power output and muscle contraction. Not good for any goal. Pay attention to those feet! This gives a similar stimlus to a full pullup, while taking away some of the weight to promote success of the rep, adding volume without sacrificing form and to 'groove the pattern" of proper tension and vertical pulling mechanics. Defiantly prefer this method over the assisted pullup machines, which puts the lifter in a disadvantageous position to progress to a full range pullup.
