Surely that's enough rest for now? Still a bit tight around my left hip but the general fatigue has lifted. And I'm on day 3 of a 30 days of yoga @yogawithadriene challenge and day 6 of a yoga streak altogether so hopefully nicely stretched out ° Left work too late for running club last night, so off to test the legs tonight at 1 mile reps session ° I got (very easily) persuaded into a January ultra this morning by @ultralan so need to bring my planned increase in mileage forward a couple of weeks from Jan to more like mid December. Still a whole month of low mileage 'recovery' following the New York Marathon though

Recientemente comencé a integrar otra serie de ejercicios como entrenamiento “fitness” de squats, brincos a la cuerda, etc. para fortalecer, tonificar y complementar mi práctica de Yoga recomendadísimos de @caarofitness (aunque en estas vacaciones no hice nada 🙈) . . . Mis piernas y la zona de la cadera terminan aporreadísimas e hice esta secuencia secuencia como un “warm-up” dinámico o “Post-training” (Antes o después de tu entrenamiento 🏋️‍♂️ o de correr) y me ayudó muchísimo a poder caminar al siguiente día 😅. ¡Es súper importante tanto fortalecer cómo estirar! . . . ¡Inténtalo! Sostén cada postura por lo menos 5 respiraciones profundas de cada lado. Vas a estirar flexores, cadera, femorales, glúteos e ingles y mantener la movilidad o flexibilidad natural de tu cuerpo. This morning’s run was hard. Maybe it was the 92% humidity...or the hills I decided to run. I walked about half. After my stress fracture last year, my sports med doctor told me I need to listen to my body and stop pushing myself for numbers and times. That day will come. I’m in the beginning of my training cycle for running a marathon and I’m trying to focus on listening to my body at all costs. I’m happy I walked this morning. There isn’t anything better than walking outside into the sunshine and fresh air. Also right up there on a list of amazing things is being able to come back to your home after a long day. Or knowing your family is safe. Lately due to wildfires, there are so many people who don’t have any of those things right now. 😢 . . Last year, lots of Californians were affected by the Napa fires and this year, we aren’t getting much of a break from the devastation as fires tore through Butte County late last week and burned through the town of Paradise and continue to threaten surrounding areas. Homes and lives lost and lots being affected by the unhealthy air quality. 🌫 . . It’s easy to feel helpless. But there is plenty to do. Money donations will go further than actual supplies in this situation so I will donate 100% of the proceeds from the remaining spots to my hip health workshop to the California wildfire efforts directed towards fighting and containing the Camp Fire. Day 1 Tokyo Marathon Training The journey begins right here. Today. And the training program I’m about to embark on does not begin with a run. Monday is Yoga day. So I headed to @modoyoga Markham for a 60 minute class. It’s been too long. Runners seem to be divided about stretching. Some swear by it. Others see it as unnecessary maybe even detrimental. I’ll admit, I’m not always consistent but having integrated regular yoga sessions in previous marathon training programs, I absolutely feel that it does have benefits for me. Both in stretching out muscles and in focussing the mind. So my goal for the next 16 weeks is to do a minimum of 60 minutes of yoga per week. So far so good. Core work comes in many shapes - this is a good one. I sometimes refer to props as ‘truth tools’ as they reveal where we tend to cheat or come out of alignment. A simple dowel gives us great feedback. Place the dowel so it touches your head, sacrum and thoracic spine. ⚡️INJURY: AVOIDANCE COPERS⚡️ Last week, we posted some thoughts on the psychology of injury, and how factors outside of the injury itself can affect an individual’s reaction and perceived pain levels. The various ways in which people and athletes cope with injury also come down to personality: a person who sees themselves as fragile, broken and incapable will have a tendency to avoid movement post-injury, for fear of “making it worse.” These people are sometimes called avoidance copers, and they can be more likely to develop compensatory movement patterns, including avoiding having to move at all. The classic example would be someone with back pain, who over time begins to avoid articulating their spine in general: they just move the whole thing in one chunk in order to keep it “safe.” Ironically, this usually doesn’t help heal the injury, but further reduces the tissues’ capacity to handle load, meaning they become even weaker. …. ⚡️Needless to say, these folks can generally use some encouragement and (simple!) movement to build their confidence and change their perception of themselves as weak. From there, it’s possible to gradually expose them to more challenging movements to build up their capacity further. ….. ⚡️We’re probably a little biased, but we think that yoga, when used appropriately, is a great modality that can help ease people back into movement, feel confident in their bodies, capable in their strength, and affect their self-image positively. …. ⚡️Are you an avoidance coper? Double T A P ✋✋for taking care of your WHOLE body. Inside & out. . . I feel like I was the closest to having visible abs in 2015. It was also the most traumatic year of my life with losing 2 immediate family members in an 8 month period of time. I looked Healthy from the outside but inside I was broken. . . 3 years, many therapy sessions and a 200 hour yoga teacher training later, I am healing. . . Being in physical shape is good. You’re setting yourself up for a long life. But hear me on this, girl.. you HAVE to take care of your mental state. You have to allow yourself to feel and process things that happen in your life, and I highly recommend a therapist to help you take those steps. . . Yoga has helped me heal, too. . . Remembering to breathe & honor my body — not just in the intense cardio way, but in the slower, more intentional way, has given me more peace and patience than I’ve ever had before. . . Take care. Show love, and walk peacefully into the weekend.
