As #worldbreastfeedingweek draws to a close, I’m reminded of my short lived breastfeeding journey. Can’t believe it was 6 years ago now!
A myriad of issues meant that it was all over for us by 3 mths.
The hardest part about it, surprisingly, wasn’t the guilt I felt myself, the hours spent crying over my “loss”.
The hardest part was the CONSTANT questioning and judgement from OTHER WOMEN. Some of them friends and family.
Even nurses at the hospital when we were admitted with Pickle for respiratory distress. “You just need to try harder”
“Oh I could NEVER formula feed my baby”
“Hey, did you try...”
“I tandem breastfed premature twins after a c-section- you shouldn’t have any problems..”
etc etc etc 🖕🏽🖕🏽🖕🏽 For all of the furore over women breastfeeding publicly, in those early months of motherhood I found more judgement from strangers as a bottle feeder.
I wrote a lil blog about it at the time you can find in my profile 💁🏽♀️
*includes lots of new mama ranting!* Once we switched to formula, little Pickle THRIVED, and I came back from the edge of the precipice of madness.
Also a special shout out to @cominoelsa from @eat.real who instead of judging, offered REAL help. She had a SURPLUS of milk, and so very generously donated some of her precious nectar to me as well as another adoptive family ❤️
#yesmama 🙌🏽 I’m so grateful for the short time we had feeding, and now with more education and empowerment, I’m going to give it a red hot crack again with Baby Boo.
One thing to remember about #breastfeeding - it’s actually none of your business.
New mama’s need your love, support and GIANT FUCKIN HIGH FIVES for bringing life into the world!
A massive shout out to all breastfeeding mamas out there rockin it, and every other mother on the spectrum doing their damn best!
