Greg off the twisted bow of the S.S. Yongala shipwreck, which lies listing to starboard. When the wreck was first dived in the 1950s, almost half a century after it sunk in a Category 5 cyclone In Queensland, nearly half of the 122 victims’ remains were found in the bow. It is now permanently sealed.

The wreck of the S.S. Yongala. A huge passenger ship which sank in a Category 5 cyclone off Ayr, Queensland 107 years ago with the loss of 122 lives. Now an extraordinary marine ecosystem which easily rivals the best I saw in Raja Ampat. A magnificent dive.

Is there anything as thrilling as diving with sharks? Julie, Greg and I were lucky to encounter at least 6 of these magnificent grey nurse sharks at my favourite Sydney dive site, “The Apartments”, off Long Reef. A gentle ‘cousin’ of the Great White Shark, the grey nurse shark was almost hunted to extinction, but is now a protected species. One of Australia's most endangered marine species, there is an estimated population of 1,500.

Looking forward to exhibiting some of my underwater images in this exhibition in Bondi, Sydney in May along with Vanessa Torres Macho and Rick Reimer from @risingtidelab and Thierry Rakotoarivelo. -------------------------------------- Beneath the famous Eastern Suburbs of Sydney surfing waves lies an extraordinary, hidden marine ecosystem. In this photographic exhibition, four international divers take you on a deep dive into a magical ocean world, showcasing the diverse and colourful local marine life. All members of Global Underwater Explorers (GUE), their adventures to hunt for the best wrecks, reefs and marine creatures will forever change the way you think of the waters around Waverley. “We all share a deep love of the ocean and marine conservation. Every dive is an explorative journey into an incredible world.” *** If you can’t make the opening night, pop into the Bondi Pavilion to see the exhibition between the 22nd May and the 3rd June between 10am and 5pm. ***
