Looking forward to exhibiting some of my underwater images in this exhibition in Bondi, Sydney in May along with Vanessa Torres Macho and Rick Reimer from @risingtidelab and Thierry Rakotoarivelo. -------------------------------------- Beneath the famous Eastern Suburbs of Sydney surfing waves lies an extraordinary, hidden marine ecosystem. In this photographic exhibition, four international divers take you on a deep dive into a magical ocean world, showcasing the diverse and colourful local marine life. All members of Global Underwater Explorers (GUE), their adventures to hunt for the best wrecks, reefs and marine creatures will forever change the way you think of the waters around Waverley. “We all share a deep love of the ocean and marine conservation. Every dive is an explorative journey into an incredible world.” *** If you can’t make the opening night, pop into the Bondi Pavilion to see the exhibition between the 22nd May and the 3rd June between 10am and 5pm. ***

Moray eel. While generally harmless, morays have a primitive, vice-like bite mechanism which they cannot release even after death, and therefore must be pried off their victim. Another reason for divers to look but never touch the wildlife. :: Bare Island, Sydney, Australia

Every now and then you have that one dive which is even more special than many that went before. And the majestic manta rays are a favourite of divers all over the world. Encountered on Dive 6 of a fantastic long weekend of diving at Solitary Islands last month, meet “Bondi” manta ray #1235 in the Project Manta east coast sighting database. He playfully and curiously circled Wai Keen and I for many minutes allowing us to capture quite a few images and video clips. Wai Keen sent in images of the manta to Project Manta. Turns out it was an unidentified juvenile male and so he got to name him. He put it to the group who dived over the long weekend, and we tossed around a few names before deciding on "Bondi", named after our favourite dive shop @divebondi and the the suburb it lies in. We now have an official marine mascot!
