When Parker says, “Add more weight Sammy!” that can only mean one thing.. - Today, Parker benched a total of 50lbs. for five repetitions (without my help) for a personal record and increased his seated rows up to 55lbs. for ten repetitions. - With hard work, consistency and the right attitude, abilities will outshine disabilities.

When I was a coach at T3 Performance, I bonded with two brothers, Troy and Ryan. Coming back home, seeing how much they’ve grown up and listening to their successes makes me extremely proud of them. - Got to hang out with a few coaches, James and Ryan, who sharpened me as a coach and trainer. Always considered them big brothers to me. Many of their teachings have stuck with me and I implement them daily. - Very grateful to have crossed paths with everyone. That is what life should be about, helping each other grow and making each other better. Not only in the gym, but in life. Our story might only be a few chapters, but the relationships last a lifetime.

#TrainWithSammy - Week 10: HIIT Treadmill 1 - I am on vacation visiting my family, but that doesn’t mean I skip my workouts. Pasta dinners with the family and my weakness of Biagios’s donuts have forced me into some added cardiovascular training. - To be honest, I am not a huge fan of the treadmill. I don’t like running. I find treadmills boring. I like to get my cardio in other activities, like boxing. Cardiovascular training is important. - Benefits of cardiovascular training: * increased metabolism * decreases blood pressure * decreases resting heart rate * increases blood flow throughout body * helps control blood sugar * increases oxygen supply to muscles allowing them to work harder * helps reduce fatigue and shortness of breath - Here is a high intensity interval training workout for the treadmill. You can do this before or after resistance training or as your entire workout. You can adjust the speeds based on your abilities. - Workout: - Warmup: 5 minute walk * incline: 2% * speed: 3mph - 4 rounds: 30 seconds on, 30 seconds off * incline: 15% * speed: 6mph - 4 rounds: 30 seconds on, 30 seconds off * incline: 12% * speed: 7mph - 4 rounds: 30 seconds on, 30 seconds off * incline: 10% * speed: 8mph - 4 rounds: 30 seconds on, 30 seconds off * incline: 8% * speed: 10mph - Cool Down: 5 minute walk * incline: 2% * speed: 3mph - Enjoy week 10 of #TrainWithSammy

#TrainWithSammy - Week 8: Abs of Steel - This week’s training is some of my favorite ab exercises that in training sessions. @mcristofaro asked for ab exercises and tips, so here we go. - I will note that I do not perform all of these exercises as an entire workout. I perform 2 or 3 of them during my workouts for the week. - Your abs and core are two different components. Abs, or rectus abdominals, are muscles. They are what we see. Your core covers those muscles by providing you with functional strength and stability. Important for posture and many daily activities. Pick 2 or 3 of them and add them to your workout sessions.. - Yes, abs are “made in the kitchen” and we have heard that time and time again. Your diet needs to be on point. But if you want to add some serious definition, we need to train them with a variety of exercises. - Jump Rope: great exercise for the core to warm up the body and gradually increase the heart rate. - Weighted Crunches: add some serious pop to your abs by adding resistance and high reps. - Ab Wheel: my favorite. Great for both your core and abs.l. - Toes to Bar: lower abs are tough to hit and this is one exercise worth doing. You can always perform Knees-to-Bar if you cannot get your toes to the bar. - Stick Twists: this exercise will help chisel those obliques on the sides. - Flutter Kicks w/Barbell: by adding the barbell, this ab exercises strengthens your core while targeting those lower abs. - Back Extensions: a staple in my daily sessions. Great for the lower back and core. Start with bodyweight, then gradually add resistance such as plates, dumbbells or kettlebells. - Rope Crunches: use heavy resistance and these will add some good definition to your abs and make them pop for summer. - These were just a few of my favorite ab exercises. Any tips that you might have, let me know. - Start your Monday off the right way 💪🏼

Parker and I are back in the kitchen with a special edition July 4th recipe 🇺🇸 - For those that follow our journey, we started our very own cooking show because eating healthy is important and Parker developed Celiac Disease. - As you can tell in the video, our personalities blend like brothers even outside of the gym. Parker loves to eat and I love to cook, so why not create something that can educate and help others. Enjoy this episode of The Sammy and Parker Cooking Show 👨‍🍳👨‍🍳 #sammyandparker

As much as mixed martial arts gets a bad rap for its brutality and aggressive nature, this part of my life taught me priceless life lessons. - I learned how to keep my composure when life gets chaotic. - I gained the self-esteem I needed to approach any situation with confidence and belief in myself. - I learned how to get back up when life knocks you down. - I learned how to roll with the punches that others threw at me and use them to do good. - Your heart is your biggest weapon. Many times my back has been against the wall, odds stacked against me and people saying I couldn’t do it. But as long as I believed in myself, there is nothing on this earth than can stop me from achieving the goals I have for myself #tbt

#TrainWithSammy - Week 7: The Calm Before the Storm - Training with me also includes a beneficial and dynamic warmup. @fulanito47 asked for a good warmup before exercising. I put together some of my favorite warmup exercises that I do regularly before heavy lifting, boxing or any physical activity. - Many of these exercises I learned from my time with @t3performance in Ohio. I was surrounded by great trainers and coaches that taught me many beneficial and corrective exercises. Very grateful for their guidance and instruction in my young career. I have adapted many of their teachings into my training sessions and programs. - My recommendations for many of these exercises is to go for time, not reps. 10-20 seconds an exercise, each arm, each leg, etc. - This is a dynamic warmup meant to loosen your muscles up, increase your core temperature, get the blood flowing and help you have a better workout. The goal is to “ignite the fire” by turning on our proprioceptors throughout the body. - Exercises: - Long Arm Swings * benefits: increase range of motion for upper body - Trunk Twists * benefits: activation of spinal flexors and rotators. - Scarecrows * benefits: shoulder mobility and stability; increase of range of motion. - Squats * benefits: functional, increase mobility and balance. - Lunges * benefits: functional, increase hip flexor flexibility and helps activate the glutes. - Glute Bridges * benefits: activates hamstrings, glutes, lower back and abs. - Supine Leg Kicks * benefits: increase range of motion for lower body; improves hamstring flexibility - Supine Leg Overs * benefits: activation of torso; increase hip mobility - I-Fly & T-Fly * benefits: improve shoulder health and range of motion in shoulders - Quadruped Bird Dog * benefits: activates core; improves core stability; enhances posture - Enjoy week 7 of #TrainWithSammy.
