Today is National Vietnam War Veterans Day, an annual observance that honors Vietnam veterans and their family members for their sacrifices and service and for answering the nation's call to duty more than 50 years ago.
Pictured here is Chief Warrant Officer 5 Norman H. McIntosh, the Virginia National Guard's longest serving aviator. McIntosh joined the Army in 1968, served as an aircraft commander in Vietnam and spent almost 42 years in uniform. Retired chief warrant officers Davey Crockett and Bill Outlaw, served alongside McIntosh in the Sandston-based 2nd Battalion, 224th Aviation Regiment and both men served two tours of duty in Vietnam. Combined, these three men earned more than 33,000 flight hours.
